Houston Hobby Airport is located just seven miles south of downtown Houston, making it a quick 15–20 minute drive via Interstate 45. With a car rental on Turo, you can bypass the wait for a shuttle and hit the road to downtown hot spots like the Toyota Center, Discovery Green, or the historic Theater District.
Houston’s highways can feel like a maze to newcomers, especially during rush hour, which typically peaks from 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7 pm. Speed limits vary, ranging from 30 mph on city streets to 65–75 mph on freeways. Texas law requires seat belts for all passengers, and hands-free devices are strongly recommended to avoid distracted driving. Keep an eye out for sudden weather changes — Houston is known for flash floods and heavy downpours.
Parking in Houston is a mixed bag, with plenty of parking options downtown but fewer spots in popular areas like Midtown and Montrose. Public parking garages, such as the Theater District Parking or GreenStreet Garage, offer convenient spaces for those exploring downtown attractions. Street parking is metered in most districts, but there are free parking zones farther from the city center.
