Nova Scotia is full of awe-inspiring scenery and charming small businesses, so you'll want to embrace every moment of your trip. This is why it's handy to brush up on the road rules of the province. Here are our top tips for getting around Nova Scotia.

What documents and paperwork do you need to rent a car in Nova Scotia?

To rent a car on Turo in Canada, you must create a Turo account, be 23 years old or older with a valid driver’s license, and get approved to drive on Turo. Nova Scotia follows standard Canadian traffic laws - seatbelts are mandatory, mobile phone use while driving is prohibited, and slower vehicles should keep to the right lane. Be mindful of speed limits, plan your route ahead of time, and allow extra time to stop for views or detours. Driving here is simple and scenic, perfect for a laid-back road trip.

Yes, renting a car is highly recommended for exploring Nova Scotia. While there is some public transportation, it doesn’t reach many of the province’s scenic coastal towns, national parks, and hidden gems. With a rental car, you have the freedom to explore at your own pace and truly experience the variety of landscapes Nova Scotia has to offer.

A car makes it easy to reach beautiful spots like the Cabot Trail, Lunenburg, and Peggy’s Cove without relying on rigid bus or tour schedules.
