Melbourne: the Victorian capital city brimming with arts, culture, great food and better coffee, and no shortage of things to see and do. It’s little wonder Melbourne has consistently been named the most liveable city in Australia. Beyond the city centre, though, there’s a bevy of regional towns and villages, outdoor adventures, cultural attractions, and wildlife experiences that are well worth exploring. Luckily, once you land at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport or Avalon Airport, the state really is your oyster. Because Victoria is quite compact, you can venture to almost anywhere outside the city relatively easily by car. Ready to get going? Pick up a car near Melbourne Airport and hit the road.
Book the perfect car
Rather than hustling at the busy terminal curbside, take your time picking up the car at a parking lot or garage. Check in, load up your luggage, and get comfortable with the car without a big rush.
Many hosts offer contactless check-in and checkout, if their car has remote access technology, allowing you to find the car, unlock it, and be on your way without meeting them in person. Message your host for specific instructions.
Cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your trip starts. Because life happens and it helps to be flexible when it does.
This regional city has something for everyone. If you’re keen to meet some local fauna, add Ballarat Wildlife Park and Ballarat Bird World to your visit list. If your interests lie more in the city’s history, you can’t go past Ballarat Tramway Museum and Sovereign Hill, an outdoor museum that depicts Ballarat’s past as a gold rush town. Foodies and wine connoisseurs are also well taken care of with excellent restaurants, bars, breweries, and wineries dotted around the place.
Jutting out below Melbourne and packed with quaint villages, coastal towns, beaches, wineries, and winding country roads, the Mornington Peninsula is a top region to journey through. The central hub of Mornington has fantastic places to eat, drink, and shop, while seaside spots including Rye, Sorrento, Portsea, and St Andrews Beach are great for beach trips.
The Great Ocean Road is one of Victoria’s best driving routes, filled with rugged cliffside passages, the odd hairpin turn, and epic views over the Southern Ocean. Make sure to visit notable sites like Loch Ard, the Twelve Apostles, the Grotto, and the expansive and striking Port Campbell National Park. You can drive as much or as little of the route as you want, making it doable as a single- or multi-day trip.

Carma definitely restored my faith in Tullamarine car rental companies. Hannah was super friendly. Pick and drop off was a breeze. Car got 700kms on one tank. No complaints at all. Thanks team!
Thanks to the crew at carma car rental for always being on point with their cars and especially hanna for going above and beyond for their customers ❤️
Car quality was good. Didn't have all the trimmings but it did have a few scuff marks on the vehicle so if you rent this car bring some CD's and a charger for the cigarette lighter and the brakes were a bit jammy. I didn't expect much for the price I paid but I really loved the car despite the flaws and it has really low KMs. It was a fun car and I hope to be able to rent it again. I gave it a vaccum and a spray so it'll smell nice and the car clean for the next person.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. The car was exactly as described, clean, reliable, and in excellent condition. Communication was easy, pickup and drop off were smooth, and everything went without a hitch. I wouldn’t hesitate to book through Minh again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a stress free rental. Thanks for making our trip so easy and an absolute delight to deal with.

Even though the trip ended earky due to a pot hole hit, Daniel was great and tried his best to help out. The car was in great condition and I really enjoyed it

Being a Turo host myself I wanted to experience what it is like to have the guest experience on the platform, Carma’s Mustang 2024 GT caught my attention and WOW! What an experience. The car - Thrilling experience! From the exhaust note to how it drives, would love to have a car like this as my daily driver. It’s not a rental but a true experience that everyone must have! The host- from start to finish, perfect instructions abd communication. Car was presented spotless, they gave me tips on operating certain features of the car. Will definitely book again and may try their Supra next. Thanks Carma!
If you’re only in Melbourne for a weekend or a quick business trip and would prefer to stay within the city limits, you definitely won’t have trouble finding something to do.
You could really spend a whole day at Fed Square. Head to ACMI (the Australian Centre for the Moving Image), attend one of the square’s many regular events, or enjoy a meal at the numerous eateries. Rather eat further afield? Fed Square is in a convenient location near some of Melbourne’s best restaurants, including Chin Chin, Supernormal, and Movida.
The NGV is Melbourne’s biggest and best art hub, an imposing building filled with works by Australian, Indigenous, and international artists. The rotating roster of exhibitions is always top-notch, so no matter when you’re visiting Melbourne, you’re bound to catch something great. But rest assured the permanent collection is very good too.
Melbourne’s most popular city beach has an electric energy. Walk along the esplanade, wander down Acland Street and sample cuisines from around the world, head to Luna Park and hop on a ride, catch a show at the historic Palais Theatre, or drop by at sundown to enjoy the buzzing nightlife.

Melbourne, the busiest city in Victoria, has four main airport locations: Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, Avalon Airport, Essendon Airport, and Moorabbin Airport. However, most passenger jets fly into the first two.
Melbourne Tullamarine Airport — usually referred to as Melbourne Airport — is the city’s only international airport and the main hub for interstate travellers. It’s the central city’s closest airport and sits about 22 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD.
Avalon Airport is a little further out, located in Lara near the city of Geelong. It’s roughly 55 kilometres from central Melbourne.
Both airports are easy to get to by car, but can also be accessed via the SkyBus — Melbourne’s only public transport option for travelling to and from the airport.
