Hosts M and Cherry were responsive and friendly, for the most part. However their 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee I rented Feb 21-28 for a ski trip to Revelstoke and Sun Peaks had significant electrical/mechanical issues. The front passenger window would randomly fully go down repeatedly all by itself at various speeds above 45 km constantly blasting us with sub-freezing wind, the instrument cluster and dash panel lights randomly flickered off and on constantly while driving, the headlights continually fluctuated in brightness, the startup button wouldn’t always immediately start the Jeep, and when it did start up it would randomly display an alert to “immediately service the air suspension”.

After we arrived in Revelstoke late Saturday night I messaged M. He replied early Sunday morning, apologized and told me the window issue “happened long ago and fixed it.” He told me to try holding the front passenger power window button for 15 seconds (a tip a mechanic supposedly gave him), but that didn’t do anything to fix the problem. He told me I could take it to any Jeep dealer and he would pay for the repairs. All mechanics in Revelstoke were closed on Sunday, and I wasn’t about to waste my limited time dealing with mechanics and vehicle problems the hosts should have dealt with themselves before renting the vehicle. I decided to continue driving the Jeep, dealing with all of its continual problems for the week, and hope it wouldn’t leave us stranded on the road.

M messaged me he would refund some of my money when I returned, which I was initially happy to hear. But on our way back to Kelowna Int’l Airport he messaged me that he would refund me 50 CAD. This equated to less than a 9% refund of what I paid to rent his Jeep-- excluding taxes and insurance. This was infuriating. Cherry met me on time at Kelowna Int’l for drop off, apologizing and offering me a 50 CAD bill. I declined to take the cash and messaged M back. M offered 60 CAD, saying it was “Best we can do.”. Considering what I paid for this vehicle and what I got in return, M’s refund was woefully inadequate. I declined to take Cherry’s cash or M’s 60 CAD counteroffer. This vehicle should not have been rented to customers in its current operating condition. Definitely won’t be renting from these hosts again.
