When I picked up car fan belt made slipping noice for a minute every-time it started. and then would stop. After a week using the car broke down just outside a small village..Fan Belt snapped. Called Turo who said I had option of getting it towed 325km back to Halifax, get another rental if I could find one on the island..Neither option would work as was on PEI with no option of getting it returned. Luckily the village garage was able to fit me in and get it fixed by end of day…so lost a days holiday and meals etc being stuck all day..was only refunded 10%..yet saved a huge towing bill for owner. The window blades need replacing as scrapped all day in storm. Also early signs of transmission issues..with gear jerks from time to time and loss of power on hills. So disappointed that the car mechanics not fit for renting when it clearly had signs before my pickup. Was disappointed that neither owner or Turo did anything to help when stuck and was left to me to try and find a practical solution to the issue I faced
We’re sorry your trip was affected by the rare fan belt failure. Our SUV is dealer-serviced and inspected regularly, and none of the issues you mention were reported during your rental. We worked with Turo for over an hour, allowed out-of-province repairs, covered all costs, and gave a 20% refund out of our own earnings. You chose the lowest insurance, yet we went above and beyond. It’s disappointing to see this review after you told us you understood these things happen.

The car was very clean, instructions were clear to find it at the airport and the car was in good condition for the duration of the trip.
My only complaint would be the level of the gas tank when we drove it out of the parking lot at the airport (the level showed just under the “full tank” line and the digital reader indicated “451 kms until empty”. The gas gauge dipped down quite quickly as we turned onto the highway to 3/4 of a full tank. We noticed that when we filled it up with gas upon returning the vehicle, the digital reader showed “612kms until empty” (which is quite a large difference). Besides that, the car was great and served our purpose of sightseeing around the Maritimes.

This location was selected during booking, and we didn’t receive any concerns beforehand. We’re always happy to help find the most convenient option—just let us know at the time of booking!
