fantastic host, fantastic car, 100% would recommend

I’m writing this review because of the very poor experience my family and I had with this rental and with the host. We clearly informed the host that we would be driving to Whistler and he confirmed the vehicle was suitable for the trip. Unfortunately, it was not.

Although the car was advertised as having snow tires, it did not perform safely in real winter conditions. The vehicle experienced loss of traction, skidded and got stuck several times making it unsafe to continue the drive. We were traveling with an elderly family member which made the situation especially stressful and concerning. After experiencing these issues, we checked the tires using a toonie test and found they were significantly worn out and not suitable for winter driving. While the host stated that the vehicle was inspected the previous month, the condition of the tires did not reflect that.

We ended up leaving the car in Whistler Village overnight to ensure it would be safe. We arranged for another vehicle to get to our accommodation and the next day we commuted back to Vancouver. We also called roadside assistance for towing and monitored the vehicle until it reached the host’s return location, making sure it was returned safely. What should have been an enjoyable Christmas trip ended up being quite difficult.

The host could have been more helpful in lessening the inconvenience including covering the gas charge billed to us after the trip. While Turo’s policy requires guests to fill the tank, given the circumstances and the challenges we faced, it would have been reasonable for the host to waive that charge. Overall, the situation highlighted a lack of support and accountability, which made the experience disappointing.

Ian (Host) is so helpful and very accomodating to our inquiries and questions! Will definitely rent a car again to him in the future! Highly recommended!
