While the van served us throughout our trip, it already had a "Change Oil Soon" dashboard warning and intermittent A/C issues at pickup. The oil reminder later progressed to "Change Oil Required" during our trip. We reported all concerns immediately.
We appreciated the host's offer to swap the vehicle. However, when we asked twice whether there would be any costs associated with the swap, that question was never directly answered. Instead, the discussion shifted to how much of a "hassle" a swap would be, and we were advised to continue our Ottawa trip and only reconsider it if the A/C continued to act up.
The host also initially agreed to cover an oil change after we explained we would be driving on the highway. After I explained that renters should not have to arrange maintenance during their trip, while confirming that we were still prepared to service the vehicle for safety and providing our location, the guidance became inconsistent. We were told, "No no. Forget it!", instructed to press "OK" to dismiss the dashboard warning and continue driving, and told our concern was "unusual" because the van remained functional. We ultimately checked the engine oil level ourselves before continuing.
Future renters should be aware that this vehicle displayed maintenance reminders during our rental and that the A/C required repeated workarounds, including restarting the van, toggling the A/C on and off, and leaving the fan on maximum to restore cooling.
