Tires had no tread. This made the car unable to drive on a wet incline road. Very dangerous to not have proper tread on tires.

The vehicle was nice but extremely awful on the highway. It kept pulling off to one side a lot. I let the host know about it and that something needs to be checked. I also returned the vehicle 4 hours before my time was ending but no option on the app to end it earlier?
I’ll give a 3 as everything was fine besides the driving was a bit scary on the highway for 2.5 hours to my destination and 2.5 hours back.

The pick-up experience was efficient in the most minimal sense — I walked up, found a lockbox on the front bumper, grabbed the keys, and left. The location, however, was a small, somewhat rundown mechanic’s lot tucked behind a gravel parking area and surrounded by vehicles in various states of collision damage and disrepair. None of that directly affected my rental, but it wasn’t a welcoming start. When I found the Carnival, a man standing beside it put out a cigarette and walked inside without a word.
The vehicle itself smelled of smoke and wasn’t what I’d call clean. The floor mats were muddy and covered in debris, and while there were no obvious stains or garbage on the seats, the overall condition still fell short of expectations. Once I got home, I vacuumed it myself and did my best to address the smoke smell — with limited success.
A more immediate concern was the service reminder that appeared every time I started the vehicle, indicating it was over 3,000 km past its scheduled maintenance. That’s not something a renter should have to think about.
The most serious issue, though, was the brakes. For what I believe is a 2025 model, the pulsing and vibration at highway speeds was alarming — jarring enough to shake the entire vehicle. I would characterize it as unsafe. We were on Vancouver Island at the time, and it got bad enough that had we been closer to the pick-up location, I would have returned it on the spot. This isn’t a subtle issue anyone could miss — any driver would notice it, and I’d expect a Turo operator to have caught it before putting the vehicle on the platform.
The Carnival is a great family hauler and comfortably fit our group of eight — but I credit Kia for that, not SpeedX. Between the smoke odor, the cleanliness, the overdue maintenance, and what I consider unsafe brakes, this was a disappointing rental. I won’t be returning to SpeedX for future bookings.
