1 star – proceed with caution when renting this vehicle due to severe lack of disclosure about its poor condition and multiple safety issues.

I rented this 2013 minivan for a 5-day, 1700km holiday round-trip to Quebec City in harsh winter conditions—the worst I've driven in over 35 years. Upon pickup, visible rust raised immediate concerns, but many problems only became apparent during the trip.

Had the host fully disclosed these, I would never have booked it.

Key undisclosed issues:
1) Tires: Front tires severely worn/bald on the outer edges (mechanic at Canadian Tire confirmed they needed replacement); multiple tires low on pressure, requiring inflation before departure.
2) Safety hazards in winter driving: Rear window defroster only worked partially; rear windshield washer sprayed the front instead (no rear cleaning possible)—extremely dangerous with no rear visibility in snow/ice.
3) Excessive cabin noise (hard to converse), severe vibration above 110km/h, and suspicious chassis noises over bumps (sounded like suspension was 'cracking').
4) Non-functional features: Driver's heated seat inoperable; left turn signal doesn't auto-cancel; power tailgate barely opens and often falls shut (required help to hold open); rearmost seats don't fold properly; right rear door failed mid-trip (had to manually override).
5) General poor maintenance: Interior dirty and worn (torn seats, peeling seals, plastic hanging); no accessible USB ports initially (host provided adapter only after confronting).

I messaged the host multiple times about these during the trip. His responses dismissed them as 'normal wear for a 2013 car' or claimed he 'couldn't remember everything wrong.' He mentioned recent 'mechanical certification,' but that doesn't address unsafe tires, visibility issues, or basic functionality.

The vibration was so bad we stopped in Richmond Hill—just 20km after pickup—to call traditional rental companies, willing to take the financial hit and switch vehicles. Unfortunately, nothing was available over the holidays.

The constant shaking was intolerable for my wife; rather than subject her to it on the return drive, I paid ~$700 for a last-minute flight home from Quebec City to Toronto.

I have no issue with older vehicles (mine is a 2016), but full transparency and disclosure is essential—list all known problems so renters can decide. Some might accept them; I certainly would not have, especially for a long winter drive with family.

Ori's response

Hi Sanjay, I’m sorry this was your experience.

I took your concerns seriously and made sure to respond and explain to each issue you raised during your trip.

The car is used and rented regularly and passed a safety inspection shortly before your rental.

After your trip, I also took the vehicle in for additional servicing to ensure everything was in good condition.

I appreciate you sharing your detailed feedback and wishing you all the best.
