I am leaving a 5-star review primarily because the host provided outstanding customer service. He met me in person, was incredibly professional, and sincerely apologized for the issues we encountered. He even acknowledged that he noticed the smoke smell as well and agreed to a partial refund due to the inconveniences, which I really appreciated.
While the trip went well overall, I did want to list a few maintenance items for the host and future renters to be aware of:
Interior Odor: There was a noticeable smoke smell when first entering the vehicle, and a burnt oil smell would occasionally come through when the recirculation mode was turned on.
Alignment & Vibration: The car has a persistent vibration at higher speeds, and the steering wheel has to be held at an angle to drive straight, which caused some hand numbness during longer stretches of driving.
Electronics: The wired phone charging setup was a bit unreliable and didn't always charge the phone.
Fuel Level: The gas tank was less than 3/4 full at pickup, making it tricky to gauge the exact amount needed to match it, so I just returned it with a full tank.
Despite these vehicle issues, the host's excellent communication, accountability, and fair resolution made it a highly positive experience. I would absolutely rent from them again.
