This was a challenging rental, which was partly on me. I wish I had not booked a non-refundable car.

I realized after booking that the 2016 Nissan Leaf is famous for having poor electric range, which meant I was worried the car would just barely make it to the Flo charger at our rental in Sutton. I just learned upon arriving at the airport that it wouldn't be a pickup, but that we would take a shuttle to the parking garage, where there was an extra $34 dollar parking charge I hadn't expected. The car was at an 85 percent charge and the low tire pressure light was on; Ivan said we could put air in the tires, but I didn't know how to do that. He also doesn't use the normal check-in procedure, but requires you to send him photos of yourself to get the code to access the car. This means we were just standing around the freezing cold car park waiting to get into the car -- really not a pleasure. He also didn't send the entry instructions until the day of travel, when he expected me to have watched a video, but I'd been in an airplane all day. More advance notice would have been helpful.

Because of the 85 percent charge, we realized we were going to have to stop on the drive to Sutton, because the car wasn't guaranteed to make it without a fuller charge. We had problems charging, which was probably on us, because we weren't familiar with electric charging, but the charging at the rental house was great. By the end of the third day, there were now two dashboard lights on -- a yellow constantly and a red when in park. I texted Ivan to alert him, and he said I didn't need to do anything. I also had to ask him on the last day about the expectation for recharging the car before drop off -- it is 10 percent less than you received it -- which meant we had to spend another hour charging on the drive back just sitting in the cold to be able to return the car.

We were grateful to be able to change the return location to a more convenient spot for us by the main hospital, but just as we pulled into the parking garage, the car got a flat tire...probably related to the fact that the tires weren't well maintained before we got the car and I didn't know/wasn't advised to take it in for maintenance during the three days we had it. I alerted Ivan about the flat tire immediately -- the same as I had for all the other maintenance issues as soon as I saw them.

Overall, my lesson was not to book non-cancellable reservations on Turo, because you don't get the same support as a normal rental car company.

Ivan's response

Sorry. Just saw your negative feedback. The car has 2025 new battery from nissan. It is why in summertime it can go up to 240km. Original 2016 battery is 80-100km in summertime

Parking fees are normal for turo trips. I try to avoid that but sometimes it is not possible
After your trip, you may be tired. Don’t forget to add extras to your trip! For only $20 per trip, you can return your car without recharging the battery. Using the card will make the process of charging your car much easier.

Ivan's response

Merci beaucoup
