Rugged new uniforms for the Outback and Forester
Summer is now underway and there are plenty of vehicles equipped with all the essentials for a memorable outdoor adventure. Perhaps the most exciting new prospect is Subaru’s Wilderness Family — a brand new trim available on the Outback and Forester models. Offered by the highly reliable and respected Subaru brand, you can be assured that a Wilderness model is an excellent companion for your next visit to the great outdoors. The station wagon Outback and SUV Forester models boast all-wheel-drive powertrains, ample ground clearance, all-terrain suspensions, and bold styling sure to make your Jeep friends take a second look.
Subaru is frequently regarded as one of the safest and most dependable brands, with 96% of Subarus sold in the last 10 years still active on the road today. Any Subaru enthusiast will tell you that their Subaru comes standard with all-wheel drive and advanced safety technology, making it a top choice for camping, mountain trips, or a jaunt along a coastal highway. With the recent introduction of the Wilderness trim for the 2022 model year, Subaru is celebrating its adventure-loving enthusiasts with models that are stacked with Subaru’s most capable packaging and the flexibility to take your family further on your outdoor journey.

Even at first glance, the Wilderness trim brings more than an anodized copper badge of honor to the Outback and Forester. The first thing you’ll notice as you approach the car is its unmistakable rugged styling. The Wilderness comes with redesigned front and rear bumpers with generous angles to avoid scraping the car on steep inclines or while off-roading on rocky landscapes (keep in mind, off-roading is prohibited with any car booked on Turo). They also stand out from traditional Subaru models with an abundance of black plastic cladding, matte black alloy rims, a glare-reducing hood decal, reinforced roof rails, and an available Wilderness-exclusive Geyser Blue paint.

Step inside the cabin and you’ll be welcomed with water resistant performance upholstery designed to withstand anything from heavy camping equipment to a family of oily sunscreen hands. Riders in both the Outback and Forester will also enjoy heated seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an oversized moonroof, and eye-catching orange accents throughout. Rear folding seats also provide extra storage space for those bulky items. As an additional option, the Wilderness comes with roof rails that can brace large sporting equipment or even a rooftop tent. Just don’t forget to bring the passengers inside before driving off!

Under the matte black hood lies the famed boxer engine, offering 260 hp and 277 ft lbs. of torque in the Outback and 182 hp and 176 ft lbs. of torque in the Forester. Both models are powered by a flat four engine, but the Outback’s is turbocharged, enabling up to 3,500 lbs of towing and a zero-to-sixty mph sprint of 5.8 seconds. With over nine inches of ground clearance and a cushioned suspension, both the Outback and Forester glide smoothly over the road. And for when the terrain gets bumpy, the Dual X-Mode allows the driver to select between different driving modes that optimize the all-wheel-drive powertrain for maximum grip even in the most extreme conditions: deep snow, sand, or mud. Plus, all this beef is supported by all-terrain tires ideal for any climate.
These fully loaded Outback and Forester variants are soon to become commonplace alongside iconic adventurers like the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco. Although the young Wilderness Family doesn’t have a treasured history like the Jeep or Ford, the Subaru brand offers an attractive alternative with a plush cabin and practicality for everyday drives.
