Keeping a family tradition alive during 2020
Halloween is perhaps the best American holiday for decorations. You might have that one neighbor who goes all-in on front yard props and pyrotechnics, but have they turned their house into a multi-deck pirate ship with functioning cannons?
Chip’s done that. In fact, his family Halloween parties boast fully realized themes each year, and no doubt have become the stuff of legend for their neighborhood. “I’ve been with my wife for about 30 years, and the whole time we’ve been big on celebrating Halloween, even in college,” said Chip. “Eventually it turned into this extravaganza where we transform our house every year.”
“And now, the last several years we’ve been able to book cool stuff on Turo to add a car meet element. It’s really been so fun.”

One year Chip decked out the house as the Justice League’s Hall of Justice, and booked a BMW i8 to serve as the Batmobile. The next Halloween their house was the Disney castle, and Chip posed as Walt Disney in a Rolls-Royce convertible. Then they had Barbie’s Corvette to complete a Toy Story theme. It’s a true production.
This past Halloween, they went with Super Mario. With the COVID pandemic in full swing, the cars became critical to continuing the tradition. “Of course, normally we’d do up the house and have everybody come over,” said Chip. “Well in 2020 we couldn’t do that, so instead we brought the Mario Kart parade to the neighborhood.”

To really sell the theme, Chip’s family booked a number of “karts,” including a couple of three-wheel Polaris Slingshots. Chip was Luigi, his (shorter) next door neighbor was Mario, and Chip’s wife played Princess Peach. “The costumes were great,” he said. “But we really couldn’t have done this without the Slingshots. Like without Turo we couldn’t even have had this idea.”

Because nobody was trick-or-treating, Chip’s Mario party took the festivities to the neighborhood. After a well-composed, impressive, and really quite enviable Halloween photoshoot, they treated their neighbors to (clean) Mario-themed goodie bags. “We rode down and handed out goodie bags to the kids. Man, it worked so well.”
If, like Chip, Halloween is serious business for you, get creative this year and find something to book that’ll put the finishing touch on your decorations or costume.
