When you run your own successful mobile design and communications agency, you get to travel a lot. And that’s how frequent flyer and Londoner Peter D. discovered Turo — via his frequent business trips to the US, namely Los Angeles.
“I just searched ‘California car rental‘ on Google and Turo popped up. I wanted to rent a better car at a good value, and Turo seemed to fit the bill,” Peter reflects. While he has elite status with both Hertz and Avis because of his frequent travel and AmEx rewards (and thus the perks that come with top-tier status), he struggled accessing the prestige cars he really wanted from their generic fleets. Discovering Turo’s broad selection of specialty cars, he decided to give it a go. Seven rentals later, he’s become a loyal Turo traveler for his holiday and business trips stateside.
Always a car enthusiast, Peter fancies “fun” cars for his travels — both business and pleasure. His first few rental choices were of the American muscle car persuasion — Dodge Chargers, Chevy Corvette Stingrays, and the like — quintessentially American sports cars. His wife, however, took issue with the lack of trunk space, and now they typically opt for more practical SUVs that can suit their luggage requirements when they go on holiday. She also prefers European cars to Peter’s American muscle cars, both of which “are easy to find on Turo”. And they both love the possibility of securing the exact car they want before they arrive, and not being upsold a series of upgrades at the counter. You get what you want, and you can avoid “car rental hell”, as Peter puts it, “especially at LAX where you have to wait, take a shuttle, all for a lousy car a few miles away.”
Peter was so smitten with Turo that when he got married in a destination wedding in Pacific Palisades, CA, he advised his wedding guests to rent from Turo on his wedding website — resulting in 30 new Turo community members from both the states and across the pond.
Peter exemplifies why Turo chose the UK for its next market — he is a travel enthusiast who likes cool cars and personalized experience over the status quo. British tourists represent the largest cohort of Turo’s international traveler community, and thousands of early adopting enthusiasts have been gunning for Turo in the UK for a while.
And now, with yesterday’s launch in the UK, we’re so pleased to give Peter and other car- and travel-loving Brits access to a rich selection of extraordinary vehicles in their own backyards — from Land Rovers and Jaguars to Teslas and Jeeps.
