Take a break with these pretty pictures
Every few Fridays, we like to bring you moments of zen in the form of some of our favorite motorcars from around the Turo marketplace. Let’s keep the fun going. We like cars, you like cars, so let’s look at some cars.
The 308 is one of the most beloved Ferraris of all time. Besides its obvious curb appeal — shark-like nose, crisp lines, Rosso Corsa paint — the 308 holds a special place in hearts and history because of a wildly successful run as a near co-star in Magnum P.I. Remember, or picture Tom Selleck in a red convertible Ferrari tearing around 1980s Oahu, hair flying in the wind, sly grin italicizing a voluminous mustache in full glory.

Few cars more perfectly encapsulate the decadence and machismo of the era, and the 308’s prominent role in Magnum P.I was exactly the kind of culture permeation that has helped make Ferrari the brand it is today. It’s pure emotion, sensory overload, and Italian flair. Is it as fast as a real race car? How’s the rear visibility? Can I fit my suitcase inside? Who cares!
Beneath the prancing horse badge, though, is a proper machine. The 308 GTB was first introduced in 1975, previewing Ferrari’s design direction for the following decade. Then came the GTS with a removable targa top (better for seeing Tom Selleck behind the wheel), then the GTSi, which added mechanical fuel injection for smoother power delivery (though with slightly less power to meet new emissions regulations). Daniel’s 1982 308 GTSi here is a stunning example of this iconic sports car. The 2.9L V8 makes just over 200 horsepower, which isn’t a ton by modern standards, but the howl of the exhaust as you row through the gated shifter melts that knowledge away.

The 308 was never supposed to be as prodigious as its V12-powered stablemates, but it wasn’t the entry-level Ferrari of the day either. Today, it’s an undeniable symbol of cool. Tan Italian leather, pop-up headlights, truckloads of charm — did I mention the red paint? Probably nothing feels cooler than shifting through the gears of this classic Ferrari with the wind in your hair. Just grow out a mustache, pop on something with a rad guitar solo, and you’re having a good time.
