Savor this moment, as pristine samples of Porsche’s soon-to-be discontinued gasoline Boxster may be a rare find the next time you read this. The Porsche Boxster and Cayman siblings will be switching to the electric diet for the 2027 model year, so it’s the perfect time to reflect on Stuttgart’s baby sports car. Blue Diamond’s 2025 Porsche 718 Boxster is a red-velvet themed roadster that’s a treat to drive and is our June car of the month.

Unlike the expansive lineups of competitors, Porsche aims to offer the best all-around car for every vehicle segment they enter, blending high performance, luxury, and practicality to each standalone model. The 718 Boxster and Cayman are near-identical compact sports cars in convertible and coupe formats, respectively. The Boxster first entered the market in 1996 as a smaller, roofless sibling to the 911 flagship sports car, later earning its “718” moniker for the current model generation as an homage to the race car that competed in Le Mans and Formula 1 starting in the 1950s and 1960s.
The current Porsche 718 is a mid-engined beast with streamlined proportions that are so unique that it’s tough to find true competitors. It’s 172 inches long and 71 inches wide, making it one of the leanest sports cars on the road with rivals either substantially larger, not mid-engined, or not luxurious. And the convertible Boxster is rare, open-air fun in an increasingly SUV automotive landscape.

Before the 718 Boxster and Cayman re-spawn as electric cars, this 2025 model introduces the Style Edition edition trim that adorns Blue Diamond’s Boxster. It showcases streetwear aesthetics with contrasting decals and illuminated door sills. But this trim still rocks the base engine — a turbocharged, two-liter flat-four with 300 horsepower and a decent 24 mpg for fuel efficiency. It also includes the dual-clutch automatic transmission instead of the standard manual, making this car accessible to all drivers and featuring extremely fast shifting for quick acceleration.
Blue Diamond’s drop-top toy shines against the brilliant landscape of O‘ahu. The upcoming electric Boxster will have a completely redesigned body, so fans of this style should rejoice before the 718 takes the Taycan stormtrooper approach to design. The mid-engine layout enables a stretched hood that houses a frunk poised to fit a carry-on suitcase, maybe. The sleek silhouette, petite rear spoiler, and front, side and rear air vents facilitate aerodynamics. Drivers will also appreciate the plentiful sensors to make parking a breeze.

Inside the two-seat interior, the red soft top color blends into the eight-way adjustable red seats while aluminum outlines the dashboard, center console, and paddle shifters. The dashboard blends analog components with digital to keep the speed and RPM in its traditional format, and the infotainment system sits in the middle of the passengers with controls for the Bose Surround System and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
Behind the wheel, the 718 is an agile, comfortable ride. Blue Diamond’s spec includes the active suspension that can be customized to be comfort or performance-oriented and slightly lowers the ride height. The roadster is also ample fun on twisties, cornering with a low center of gravity and commanding grip. Plus, the thundering engine can be heard in great detail even with the top closed.
The highly anticipated electric Boxster and Cayman pair is sure to promise outsized performance and a tech-forward driving experience. But that doesn’t leave the current gasoline version in the dust. Blue Diamond’s 2025 Boxster is a handsome convertible that marries premium luxury with roaring performance in a familiar gas-burning format. And what could be more iconic than a winding ocean drive in a glistening Porsche with the warm Hawaiian air in your hair.
