The year of the EV is going strong

The automotive industry is all-in on electrification. You probably already know that. But throughout this fast-paced transition, it can be hard to keep track of all the latest and greatest EVs rolling off the assembly line. Back in April we brought you seven new-for-2022 EVs available on Turo; well just a few months later, several more models have been released. Let’s take a closer look at all the electric SUVs, trucks, and sedans that have hit the streets over the summer.

Ford F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning is exactly what it sounds like. Specifically, it sounds pretty quiet since it’s the electrified version of America’s top-selling truck. But no make no mistake. It absolutely delivers on the performance and utility that F-150 fans have come to expect over 14 generations.

Aaron’s F-150 Lightning is rated for up to 320 miles of driving range and has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, which is somewhere in the middle of the range for F-150s. It also produces 452 horsepower, which is more than all but the model’s most potent gas engine option. There’s no shortage of conveniences and technology, either. The spacious cab seats up to five, and you can enjoy extra storage space with the spacious “Mega Power Frunk.” Best name ever.

BMW iX

BMW refers to the iX as a Sports Activity Vehicle, but you’d be forgiven for calling it an SUV or a crossover. Semantics aside, it’s safe to assume BMW’s first electric SUV can handle utility in a pinch. All trim levels come standard with all-wheel drive, thanks to the automaker’s signature xDrive system. There’s also plenty of room to stretch, with space for everyone’s belongings. And if you need a new perspective, look no further than the panoramic roof.

So, what about driving range? Hollywood Rides’ BMW iX is rated for up to 324 miles, and it gets even better from there. To help sweeten the deal, BMW offers two years of complimentary 30-minute charging at Electrify America stations. That’s enough for up to 200 miles, which can cover a trip up the Pacific coast from Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo, for example.

BMW i4

The 3 Series has long helped define the luxury sedan segment, and the Bavarian automaker looks to do it again with the BMW i4. Drivers can look forward to impressive handling, thanks to an almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution. That’s something you’d expect from a BMW, but not from an EV. Angera’s BMW i4 eDrive40 manages up to 301 miles of all-electric range, and can take you from zero to 60 in 5.7 seconds, but the top-rung M50 does that sprint in just 3.7 seconds.

Unsurprisingly, the i4’s striking exterior and luxurious interior are both unmistakably BMW. Deep’s i4 seats up to five people, and also comes with extra goodies like heated seats. Essentially, it’s everything you’d get in the well-established BMW 3 Series, but electric.

Chevy Bolt EUV

Looking for a great value? Chris’ Chevy Bolt EUV does just about everything well. It’s rated at 247 miles of driving range, and has plenty of space for people and their personal effects. Fold down the second-row seats, and you’ve got access to a total of 56.9 cubic feet of cargo volume. That’s enough to load a few suitcases or even some small furniture. There’s even a false cargo floor, which opens to reveal a hidden storage compartment.

While the Bolt EUV is an entry-level electric SUV, it packs plenty of innovative technology in a compact package. One pedal driving lets drivers accelerate and decelerate with just the throttle, using regenerative braking to slow the vehicle. And with the available Super Cruise™ package — GM’s excellent semi-autonomous system — you can enjoy hands-free driver assistive technology over 200,000 miles of roads in the United States and Canada.

Volvo C40 Recharge

Looking for a compact electric SUV? How about one from an automaker that built its reputation on safety? The Volvo C40 Recharge rounds out this list, and is currently the brand’s only EV. True to its looks, the driving experience delivers sporty handling and punchy acceleration. As for estimated range, this crossover looks to deliver 226 miles on a full charge.

Inside, the C40 Recharge has some unique features that help it stand out from the ever-growing crowd of EVs. The infotainment system is designed around Google services, including Google Maps and Google Assistant. You can even download additional apps using Google Play. Lewellyn’s Volvo C40 Recharge even comes equipped with a 15-Speaker Harmon Kardon 3D Surround Sound System. Perfect for your next true crime podcast.
