The ultimate SUV elevated in luxury

Underneath the glitz and glamour of the modern Defender is the beating heart of one of the most prolific and impactful SUVs in automotive history. This current Defender is a long-awaited reboot of a multi-generational cinematic franchise, taking passengers on a more luxurious, high-performance ride than it’s ever done before. Venture Rentals’s blacked-out 2024 Land Rover Defender is an exemplary sample of this reimagined icon and is our August car of the month.

The Defender’s story starts back in 1948 as the first British civilian 4×4, continues throughout the twentieth century roaming the vast acres of the British Royal estates, and is currently writing its own history with this new model introduced in 2020. The Defender started simply as the Land Rover and was globally recognized for generations as the default mode of transportation for up to seven passengers across muddy roads or sandy routes. Though proudly holding its British passport, the Defender’s arrival in the American market sparked a demand for greater luxury. The newest model embraces this challenge, merging its legendary grit with a sophistication elevated for the discerning driver.

Venture Rentals’s Defender is the four-door 110 X trim, which sits between the two-door 90 and extended wheelbase 130 trims. The “X” denotes an upgraded three-liter inline-six engine that outputs 395 horses, 406 lb-ft of torque, and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a respectable 6.3 seconds. The Defender can even be equipped with a twin-turbocharged V8 for 626 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Venture Rentals’s Defender X leverages a mild-hybrid system that converts braking energy into power for the electric motor. It also features an all-wheel drive format and reimagined, classic Land Rover features. The vehicle’s settings automatically adjust for precise traction over any terrain and adaptive off-road cruise control enables stress-free driving over snow, mud, or anything in between.

While off-roading is prohibited with cars booked on Turo, Venture Rentals’s Defender is equipped with a roof rack, deployable ladder, and external storage compartments to house all the necessities for stargazing in the Arizona desert or kayaking the Salt River. It’s equipped with mud flaps, 22-inch gloss black rims and Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain adventure tires. The modern Defender’s silhouette is strikingly similar to past Land Rovers, with its razor sharp lines, signature waistline curve, and circular headlights. Venture Rentals’s X turns it up a notch with greyed out taillights, patterned hood details, red brake calipers, and permanent running boards. And although the Phoenix heat may make the door handles scalding in August, inside the Defender is a cool place to be.

Coated in black Windsor leather and premium finishes, the Defender’s cabin borrows the blueprint of the opulent Range Rover without compromising its utilitarian-first mission. Aluminum screws adorn the doors and the brown center crossbars, giving the impression of ruggedness while the 14-way electric seats heat or cool you for the drive. The alpine windows provide incremental natural light to the massive panoramic roof and are a subtle homage to the original Land Rover. Committing to the theme, each passenger has multiple options for storing belongings — whether it’s charging a device on top of the glove compartment or hanging groceries on hooks in the trunk.

The Defender is equipped with the same infotainment system you’d find on the Discovery, Range Rover, or Jaguar SUVs. It’s a pretty slick system with a 360 degree camera and an augmented image of what’s under the hood. You can count on wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto for a familiar interface to pump your favorite roadtrip tunes across the 14-speaker Meridian sound system.

The Defender harnesses the unrestrained, raw philosophy of the Land Rover mindset while keeping its suave on-pavement composure better than any competitor. Alongside the rebirth of the Ford Bronco, the Defender helped usher the automotive world into a burgeoning adventure-ready SUV market with a beloved, revived nameplate to lead the charge. Whether cruising through Scottsdale’s upscale avenues or setting out toward Arizona’s desert landscapes, Venture Rentals’s Defender 110 X delivers a rolling blend of history, power, and luxury that feels as ready for the red carpet as it does for the backroads.
