The legendary wagon makes it stateside

No matter if it’s called a station wagon, shooting brake, estate or touring, the name references an eye-catching, novel alternative to the familiar sedan. The M5 Touring replaces the trunk of the M5 sedan with a lift hatch, raises the roof, and ultimately changes up the style without compromising the driving feel. This wagon is still incredibly fast, agile on twisty roads, sumptuous to sit in, and it has finally made its way to American soil. Let’s take a closer look at Bashar’s blacked-out 2025 BMW M5 Touring, the April car of the month.

Drop a typical American onto the bustling streets of Europe and they will be immersed in a world of uniquely shaped cars. While hatchbacks and boxy urban commuters are practical for the narrow streets, a wagon is similarly more functional than a bulky SUV. Enter the M5 Touring, BMW’s high-performance treat built to provide everyday utility beyond what the traditional M5 sedan could offer without the heft of the X5 M. BMW is hoping the Touring’s global adoration and boosted sensibility will help it to outsell the sedan in the US. And for the enthusiast, BMW has only produced a wagon variant of three past M5 models, making Bashar’s ride extra appealing to the discerning driver.

Like the M5 sedan, the newest generation Touring similarly has a plug-in hybrid setup, featuring a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a high-performance electric motor. A single charge introduces up to 25 miles of pure electric driving, but you can toggle between gas, hybrid, and electric modes depending if you want a raucous or stealthy romp around town. This setup outputs 717 hp, a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, and an ultra-grippy 738 lb-ft of torque. Bashar’s wagon also has BMW’s M Carbon Ceramic Brakes that can withstand intense braking demands, ideal for slick, spring roads around the nation’s capital.

Showcased by the menacing Frozen Deep Grey paint, Bashar’s M5 Touring has an aggressive widebody stance, complemented by a gloss black kidney grille and rear spoiler. Sharp edges are accentuated by the paint’s smooth finish and the Touring’s tail lights curve upwards following its sloping roofline. Its 21-inch rims are also completely black with pops of yellow from the calipers and shiny grey from the slotted performance rotors.

Lifting the trunk opens to ample cargo space that can be stretched with rear folding seats. Bashar’s shadowy exterior theme is contrasted by an oreo interior with black contrast stitching and carbon fiber finishes. The completely redesigned interior features a sweeping digital display, customizable ambient lighting cues, and a push button gear selector. The screen houses both the driver dashboard and the infotainment system in high-resolution, while the remaining physical buttons live in the flat center console. The ambient lighting follows throughout the entire cabin and dances with light for various sequences like starting the car or interacting via bluetooth voice commands.

At the center of this gaming-inspired interior is a red band at 12:00 on the steering wheel, red paddle shifters, and red driving mode selectors. With its heads-up display, digital instrument panel, and wireless smartphone charging, the modern technology of this new model generation feels thoughtfully curated to elevate the drive rather than distract without fundamental purpose. Plus, all five passengers will enjoy immersive sound through a Bowers & Wilkins stereo system, a panoramic sunroof, and plenty of USB charging ports.

Like many of our favorite devices, the M5 Touring can be plugged in to charge up its electric motor. But unlike any other toy, this car is a delight for all the senses, transporting you onto the open road without asking you to leave any of your creature comforts behind — all with a roaring exhaust note and suave silhouette.
