Thanks to all that made it out to our Tri-State area community party at Modern Pinball on June 30th. We hope you enjoyed connecting with other local owners and travelers over a few rounds of pinball!
Many of our community members wanted to know if our event in Manhattan was a signal that Turo would resume operations in New York again. Our answer: not quite yet. Given the unique nature of the insurance statute in New York, car sharing marketplaces that offer insurance protection to their users can’t operate there. Turo spent the last few years fighting for a change to New York law, but despite widespread bipartisan support for the legislation, the New York state legislature refused to bring the bill for a vote in June 2016.
However, many New York community groups have expressed their strong support for peer-to-peer car sharing in New York, and we think we can show even more support for the innovation champions in Albany who are leading this effort. We will be asking New Yorkers to help us contact their elected representatives to thank them for their leadership and to show support. You can stay in the loop and get updates by joining our community forum, OpenRoad. We will let you know when the time is right to contact your elected officials and demand car sharing in New York!
