Whether you’re saving up for a trip, buying a home, paying your way through college, or paying down debt, Turo offers car owners an unconventional way to earn passive income from their existing investments.

To help you earn more with your car, consider these performance-enhancing tips.

Don’t underestimate the power of word of mouth

Word of mouth is effectively free advertising — when people need a car, they’ll already have heard about yours through the grapevine. To create buzz around your listing:

  • Add your listing’s URL and information into your email signatures
  • Ask friends and family to spread the word
  • Advertise on your neighborhood’s Facebook group or online bulletin board
  • Gather referrals and testimonials from your guests

Localize your advertising efforts

Though many of your potential guests will be traveling from the other side of the state, country, or world, many may also live in your own neighborhood. Perhaps they don’t own a car and want a weekend away, or maybe they’re moving and need extra trunk space. Whatever the reason, they’re an important chunk of your audience.

Localize your efforts by printing up flyers or door hangers with a QR code scan that leads to your specific listing’s URL, and post them around your neighborhood.

Advertise online

Online advertising isn’t just for established businesses; there are lots of places online where you can register your car to make it more visible. Google Places can put your car on the map, literally — just use your listing’s custom URL. FourSquare enables you to register your business to boost traffic, and you can also post your listing on Nextdoor. The Waze App, commonly downloaded to give real-time traffic and navigation updates, is a great place to advertise since your car will be visible to drivers near your location.

Social media advertising is a valuable option as well. You can place ads on either Facebook or Twitter where you can specifically target the types of guests you’re looking for, or post a Craigslist ad in your local listings.

Use social media to promote your car

You could also create your own Facebook page, Instagram handle, or Google+ page for your car, or tweet out to your followers that your car is for rent and ready to hit the road.

Remember, the more traffic going to your car’s listing, the more trips you’ll book, and the more extra cash you can pocket each month.
