Take a break with these pretty pictures
Every few Fridays, we like to bring you moments of zen in the form of some of our favorite motorcars from around the Turo marketplace. Let’s keep the fun going. We like cars, you like cars, so let’s look at some cars.
Look at this beautiful thing. American automobile companies were cooking with premium gas in the fifties and sixties, and this first-generation Ford Thunderbird is proof. The T-bird was first introduced in 1955, partly as a response to Chevy’s newly launched Corvette. Both models were not strictly sports cars, but they’re far slimmer and more nimble than many of the most popular models of the decade (e.g. Chevy Bel Air), while still offering an upscale cruising experience.

Marc’s dazzling candy apple red ‘57 Thunderbird is just a classically gorgeous machine. Wire wheels, white-wall tires, gleaming chrome everywhere — there’s so much to love. In 1957, the Thunderbird was offered with two different V8s (292 ci or 312 ci, rated at 300 and 340 horsepower, respectively) and a three-speed automatic transmission. In a car this trim, that’s some solid grunt.

The T-bird sold extremely well and helped lay the foundation for the muscle car era, including Ford’s next big hit: the Mustang. While the Mustang was embraced by the masses, the Thunderbird occupied a more exclusive lane for Ford — base models in ’65 went for $2,400 vs. $4,800. So if you’re looking for a pristine, refined cruiser in the Dallas area, Marc is your guy!
