Take a break with these pretty pictures
Every few Fridays, we like to bring you moments of zen in the form of some of our favorite motorcars from around the Turo marketplace. Let’s keep the fun going. We like cars, you like cars, so let’s look at some cars.
Lincoln is Ford’s luxury brand, and these days, some say they’re having trouble finding their identity and competing with the likes of Lexus and Audi. But in the sixties, Lincoln really stood for something, thanks in part to this car: the Continental. The Lincoln Continental drew on the success of the Ford Thunderbird’s design, and added size, luxury features, a big price tag, and opposite-opening doors to make an enviable flagship model.
Take a look at Ed’s 1963 Lincoln Continental — this thing is huge, handsome, and so, so cool. The flat sides, the squared off grille, the acres of red leather and carpet inside — everything is just nice. While those rear-hinged rear doors are the Continental’s party piece, the total package works together to make one of Detroit’s most successful luxury products. It’s not fast, it’s not nimble, but it’s about as tasteful and elegant as American cars of the era ever were. Behind the wheel of a sixties Continental, the stresses of the world melt away.
