Amber’s magical family Disneyland trip

Last year we announced a formal partnership with Dream Foundation, the only national dream-granting organization for terminally-ill adults, to fulfill lifelong Dreams together. Turo hosts have been helping provide ground transportation for Dream recipients since January 2019, and this year, we’ve had the opportunity to facilitate more and more road trips and vacations.

Dream Foundation serves terminally-ill adults and their families by fulfilling end-of-life Dreams that offer inspiration, comfort and closure. With the help of their nationwide community of volunteers, Dream Foundation has been able to connect people and make memories for over 34,000 Dreams since being founded in 1994.

According to Dream Foundation CEO Kisa Heyer, at least 60% of these experiences require some sort of travel, so we at Turo are honored to help support this wonderful mission — Turo hosts have played a part in fulfilling many Dreams by providing cars for nearly 60 Dream recipients to travel with family members and friends.

A Disneyland trip for the books

Back in August, Amber and her family were able to visit Disneyland and California Adventure with the help of Dream Foundation. With SoCal host Bassem’s Chevy Tahoe provided by Turo for their whole trip, plus a hotel room right across the street from the park, they had a magical week making memories together. “I feel like everything worked out perfectly on our trip,” said Amber.

Amber had a tradition of visiting Disneyland with her family while growing up, and says “it truly is a happy place for me filled with some of my favorite childhood memories.” Even through her years-long fight with colon cancer, Amber and Bart have continued that tradition of visiting Disney parks to celebrate milestones with their kids, Eliza and Brig. And this time, they were seven and eight years old, and tall enough to ride every ride they wanted.

If you know Disneyland, you know about the crowds and lines, but Amber reports fortuitously low crowds on their days in the parks. “I even got a reservation to the Blue Bayou, the restaurant in Pirates of the Caribbean I’ve always wanted to go to.” With all the Disneyland boxes checked and a photographer to capture the joy of the moment, we’re glad the Happiest Place on Earth lived up to its name for Amber and her family.

How to get involved

Turo is honored to work with such an amazing cause and is thrilled to introduce our community to Dream Foundation. Turo hosts can help provide cars and even donate trips to Dream recipients in need of transportation. If you’re interested in hosting a Dream recipient, shoot us an email at volunteerdreamfoundation@turo.com to let us know and we’ll keep you in mind when organizing those trips!

Or if you’re not a host, there are plenty of other ways to get involved — learn how you can volunteer and help a Dream recipient make memories!
