Bruce was incredibly nice and I desperately wanted to give him 5 stars, but it just isn’t honest. Prior to arrival the host didn’t take pre-trip photos, so the only photos I was aware of with regard to the vehicle were the nicer ones from the website. When I arrived at the vehicle (pretty far off from the airport but shuttle was quick enough), the outside of the vehicle had clearly not been washed in …. an unknown amount of time. My husband said it really wasn’t a big deal, so I didn’t worry about it. Upon unlocking the car, it was FILTHY. Not vacuumed in who knows how many trips, not wiped down, food crumbs in the seats, definitely not sanitized, trash in between the seat and the console, used lip balm in the glove box, etc. The vehicle had some useable items in case needed, such as tools or what not, but they were basically thrown in the vehicle in a way it was trashed. We were thankful we had disinfectant wipes with us because my husband was also grossed out to touch anything. Our first stop after getting the vehicle was to a car wash to vacuum out the front of the vehicle enough to feel ok sitting in it. Additionally I thought I needed to confirm mileage, so I pulled up the mileage and there were more than 160,000+ miles on the vehicle! OMG! That doesn’t feel safe to me, and if it wasn’t for my husband being with me, I wouldn’t have taken the vehicle. Unfortunately the only option as a renter is to call turo and report the issue and they would let you cancel the vehicle for the cleanliness / mileage safety issue. There was not really a good way to do that without it being incredibly inconvenient. We were so far from the airport to shuttle back and try to get a rental, which was a problem in the first place, wasn’t practical. The host called immediately to see how things were, I said they were fine, because I couldn’t risk not getting the vehicle. I did upload immediately into trip photos which the host can see, a screenshot of the policy for the host cleaning requirements, and pictures of us cleaning the vehicle, but the host never asked about that nor addressed it. Soon after taking the vehicle we noticed some mechanical glitches so to speak. The vehicle sounded off while in idle and made clicking sounds, clunking sounds at low speeds, also seemed rough while going to stop from higher speed 40+ (so example being on highway coming to stop at a light). Host did contact me mid trip to see how things were going. I wrote him back and notified him of the mechanical concerns, and that I thought it was fine for duration of trip, but really needed to be looked into. He said he put vehicle on pause to address the issues, but from what I can see 3 days later, he didn’t. The host was genuinely nice, but this was truly unacceptable. I am so frustrated the host provided the vehicle in that condition, with that level of FILTH, and truly thought it was completely unacceptable. I did contact Turo to notify them of the issues. They looked at the pictures and messages and agreed it was unacceptable and that they would be addressing both the vehicle issues and the host. They also did what they could to try to make the situation right with me, and I truly appreciated it. To me, I felt like I was in a situation I was stuck in, as there wasn’t other options that didn’t kill our day or pocketbook being last min. I’m happy nothing went bad on the trip, and Turo tried to take care of it, but unfortunately I don’t recommend you ever rent from this host as customer service, cleanliness, or even safety seems to be important to them. I think this is an off experience for Turo, and this was isolated to a host who cared more about $ than the people he is supporting.

Bruce was great to work with! The car was perfect, and I am very satisfied with how everything played out. I took this car out to a neighboring state for a job interview, and I’m really glad the option was available to rent because it is the only in the Dayton, Ohio area. Thanks again for all of the help, Bruce!

Bruce's response

My pleasure! I am cheering for you. I hope you get the job! 🙌🏾⭐️
