My first poor experience on Turo in 5 years. So much so that I am reconsidering using Turo again. I wouldn’t give this rating to Ryan as a host, rather the rental experience I had. Given that Ryan has such great reviews, this must be the outlying data to throw away, but I have to be honest with how my experience went. Ryan would probably say the same about his experience with me as a renter, but I’m not sure. It started when Ryan asked me to change my pick up time to a later time a few days before the trip. I had specifically booked this car to test a Model X for a road trip since I have one on order. I only reluctantly agreed to this later time because it was too late for me to book an alternative. Ryan said he would move the pick up location closer to me as a courtesy because of the later pick up time and that he would tell me the new pick up location the day before my trip. He didn’t contact me. When I reached out to him for the pick up location, Ryan chose to start calling me instead of texting through the app, and we started playing phone tag while I was at work and then while I was driving through areas without cell reception. This was frustrating and I did not get the new pick up location until less than 3 hours from the start of the trip. The pick up location Ryan chose was LAX, which I hate driving around because of the hectic traffic and never would have agreed to if I had been told with enough advance notice. I suspect that location was actually more convenient for Ryan even though it was framed as a courtesy to me. Things just got worse from there—since the pick up time was much later than the original (which would have been in daylight) and Ryan chose to street park the car in a location that wasn’t lit very well. I could barely see the exterior condition of the car and the pre trip pictures that I was able to get of the black Model X at night were of poor quality. The car was charged to around 60% at pick up. The interior was very slightly dirty at the time of pick up—-there was someone else’s hair on the passenger seat and the cup holders were sticky—-not an issue at all and I didn’t think much of it at the time, but after I dropped the car off, Ryan informed me that he would have to charge me extra for cleaning the car since there was some dog hair in the car. I had covered the entire interior, including seats and carpeting, before we used the car and vacuumed before returning the car. I had missed a small area, based on Ryan’s picture of the hair. Other reviews mention getting a car in freshly detailed condition, but this wasn’t—-again, something I didn’t care about, but I was surprised that Ryan’s expectation was that the car be spotless when I returned it. The drop off location was also street parking and also at night, which then made it impossible to get quality photos during check out, too. Ryan did not take or send post-trip photos until the evening of the next day. His post-trip photos were taken in daylight, after at least 10 hours had passed. He then claimed I damaged his car and sent me pictures of small paint chips in the lowest part of the bumper and a dirty skid plate. In my eyes, I didn’t notice anything during the trip in terms of damage to the exterior to the car and felt blindsided when he reported it. My experience started off poorly and just continued to get worse. Since Ryan is an All-Star host, I feel like something just went really wrong on this trip. I know it was a vastly different experience for me than with any other car I’ve rented on Turo before, and I’ve rented everything from SUVs to supercars.
Lol, this review makes me laugh. This guy is a total clown. He went from “thank you so much, we loved your car and service,” to this review, AFTER I told him him that I would need to charge for the damage he inflicted on the front bumper. AND I didn’t even charge him for the thick, white pet hair left all over my car. But no good deed goes unpunished. He comes across disrespectful & pompous. Look no further than my other 1700+ reviews on all my other cars, to see that this guy is a true outlier.
