Description

This 2018 Tesla Model X might be the greenest—and one of the fastest—way to tote up to seven people over hill and dale. As the crossover cousin to the brand's iconic Model S sedan, the X is actually practical, with all-wheel drive, a high-tech cabin with room for up to seven, and striking but fussy Falcon Wing doors. No Cost for Charging in any Tesla Super Charging Station and with AUTOPILOT fully enabled! Engines, Ride, and Handling The Model X comes equipped with a battery large enough to cover a claimed 298-mile driving range. Handling is respectable but the Model X's party piece is really the strong acceleration generated by its electric motors. Recharging is quick via one of Tesla's Superchargers, which are located across the country. Model X is the safest SUV ever. Built from the ground up as an electric vehicle, the body, chassis, restraints and battery technology provide a very low probability of occupant injury. Interior and Technology A stark and nearly buttonless interior design is classic Tesla. A huge touchscreen infotainment system dominates the dashboard. The 2018 Model X's unique windshield/glass roof runs seamlessly from the base of the hood up over the front-seat passengers for a nearly uninterrupted view of what's ahead and what's above. Autopilot. Tesla's semi-autonomous driving mode uses several cameras, multiple sensors, and radars to detect objects, people, and other vehicles and uses them to steer the Model X down the road under its own power. The Model X also offers a Summon feature that allows the user to park or retrieve the SUV from tight spots while standing outside—a feature that seems gimmicky but proved necessary thanks to the silly top-hinged doors. Go Anywhere Model X can get you anywhere you want to go—with industry-leading range and convenient charging options, all over the world.

The biggest disappointment was that the car wouldn't hold a charge for very long. I rented it for 2 days (48 hours), which included 300 miles and I ended up having to charge it 3 different times because the charge wouldn't hold. In addition, there were a few incidents which I'll share for complete transparency.... I decided to rent this Tesla Model X to drive around for a weekend of celebratory events for my nephew's birthday (this is his favorite/dream car). During the reservation process in Turo, I needed to select a pick-up/drop-off location and I selected "Edison Station" which was listed as an optional location for this owner, at no additional charge. I reserved the car a week in advance (I ordered on Sat, to pick up the following Friday, at 12:30pm). The night before my pick up date was scheduled, the owner messed me asking if I can pick up the car from his house, which is another 7 miles/15min past the Edison Station location. I explained that I was on a time crunch and asked if we could continue to meet at Edison Station, per the agreed upon reservation/contract; he agreed. On my way to pick up the car on Friday, I messaged him my ETA. He responded at 12:20 (10min before our meeting time) changing the meet up location. He told me to meet him at a new location (my guess this was his work address) which was another 9 mins (3 miles) from Edison Station. I was frustrated but I agreed, asking him if he would throw in extra miles. He verbally offered to throw in another 50 miles. I arrived to the new address location at 12:29pm. He wasn’t there yet. He arrived late at 12:40pm. Next issue was that he was cleaning out his car filled with water bottles and miscellaneous garbage, while I was waiting. He claimed he just had the exterior of the car washed but my husband and I were shocked by how dirty the inside and outside of the car was. Next I saw him jiggling the 2nd row passenger side seat to get it to adjust but once he got it to stick, I didn't think of inquiring about it. He turned over the car to me with a 54% charge. He said that charge should last me through my 48 hour reservation. I drove away excited. When I got to my nephew’s house, we had to wipe down the exterior and interior from all the dirt. I went to adjust the 2nd row passenger side seat, but it was stuck in a forward slant position. I couldn’t get it to adjust back to the seating position. The driver side 2nd row seat adjusted fine. I contacted the owner and he said he wasn’t aware of this issue but I was surprised b/c I saw him messing with it when I was in his presence. Turns out my husband had to shake it hard in order to get it to get back into position. I was embarrassed. I opened the Frunk (front trunk) and it had a bassinet/basket filling the entire width/depth so I couldn’t use it. We drove around to run errands, get lunch, and by the time we went to dinner at 7:45, the charge was down to 2%. I didn’t record the exact mileage but I’ll estimate 150 miles (since I rented for 2 days and only drove 300 miles in total). Luckily next door to the restaurant was a Tesla Supercharger. The Tesla panel said it would take 30 min to get to 80%. My husband and I got up from the dinner table after 30 min to pick up the Tesla from the supercharger location, but it only charged to 35%; so we left it to continue charging and went back to finish our dinner. When we picked it up after dinner, it was at 80% as I had set it. Next day, we drove to breakfast, went shopping, and by 3:30pm we were down to a 20% charge. I was worried we wouldn’t make it back to my nephew’s house which was about 30 miles away. We were on a time crunch because we had to pick up someone from my nephew’s house at 4:30pm but stopped at another Tesla Supercharge station before hand to try to charge up. After about 15 minutes, we only got to ~41% so we left b/c we didn’t want to be late. I contacted the owner with my concern about the charge and he said he never had this problem. We got to my nephew’s house 30 miles away and we were down to 20% again. We had dinner reservations 15 miles away but there were no Tesla Supercharging stations btwn locations and we knew we wouldn’t make it there, back and back home with a 20% charge left, so we asked my nephew’s neighbor who had a charging station in his garage if we could charge the car while we went to dinner. Such a disappointment that we couldn’t drive it to my nephew’s special birthday dinner with the family. After dinner we picked up the Tesla from the neighbor’s house and it was at a 70% charge (after 3 hrs on a non-tesla supercharge). We drove home and returned the Tesla with a 39% charge, and only used 304 miles. Didn’t end up using the extra 50 miles b/c we didn’t want to have to spend more time charging it again. Note, I asked the owner if I could return it at 12:45pm on Sunday, since that’s what time I left with it on Friday. He said yes. I arrived exactly 12:45pm and texted him. No response. I called him, and no answer. At 12:55pm he came outside but he was on the phone. He told me to park it and leave the keys inside the car and he went back into the house. Overall, it's a nice car and nice ride, but not a great experience with the battery or the owner.

Vinay was a responsive host and everything with the car went smooth. The floors of the car were left quite dirty for us which was a bit of a disappointment as the rental was for a special event we had planned, but other than that things were great.
