Description

I love this 2017 Ford Explorer, but find I'm not using it as often as I could be. The sport model is turbocharged and has nearly every feature available minus the bucket seats in the rear, and the massaging seats option (and a few other minor features). Leather Heated/cooled (in the front) seats, heated steering wheel, weathertech floormats, tinted windows, and a turbocharged engine, this is a very comfortable and fun car even on long road trips! A great vehicle for a tall driver... I'm 6' 8" and I fit very comfortably, but also comfortable for shorter drivers and passengers! SEATING - This explorer seats 7 (two buckets in front, 3 in bench seat in the middle, and two in the very back) plus some room for luggage, etc. with leather seats all around and heated/cooled front seats. The back seats can be put down for more cargo and fewer people. The very back row isn't like legroom city, but I've had adults sit back there several times with no problem. ELECTRONICS - The vehicle features Apple Carplay or Android Auto, but using these options requires your phone to sync with and trust the vehicle... which is up to you. You can still plug in your phone to charge without using Carplay/Android Auto, just by not installing or trusting the software when prompted. There are USB plugs in the console beneath the stereo (tucked into the compartment in front of the gear shifter), in the center console, and in the rear of the center console for backseat passengers (4 total). The vehicle manual has some details on the stereo and the various menu options but my familiarity is only with Apple CarPlay. The vehicle does come with built-in GPS but I find it rather confusing to use and generally rely on google maps/apple maps instead. You can sync with bluetooth to play your music or take phone calls using the vehicle speakers and microphone. KEY - The explorer uses a proximity key, meaning it just has to be near the vehicle to unlock the doors, and be inside the vehicle to start the car. The doors will not automatically lock if the key leaves the vicinity! If the vehicle is running and the key leaves the vehicle, the horn will honk. When you arrive, if doing a contactless pickup, the key will be wrapped in aluminum foil - there is a good reason for this! If it isn't completely wrapped, you might be able to lock the doors, but anyone will be able to unlock the vehicle just by testing the door handle. It is VERY important if you are leaving the car at the airport or another contactless destination that you completely wrap the key in the provided aluminum foil, then lock the doors with the switch on the doors, and leave. Test the door after you exit to make it will not unlock. SKI RACK/FISHING POLE RACK - This explorer has a Yakima Fatcat 4 Ski Rack that can safely transport up to 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards, as well as fishing poles. It is very important that if you would like to use the ski rack, please make sure I am aware of this! Frequently the ski rack will not be installed and if installed I will generally not leave the key in the vehicle unless you request to use it. TOLLS - This vehicle comes with a toll pass for use on E-470 or ExpressToll lanes. There are no toll booths on toll roads and charges are applied. The transponder (#3163402) is located behind the rear-view mirror. This can be switched manually from "TOLL" to "HOV". Keep this in "TOLL" unless specifically using HOV lanes, and even then ensure there are 3 passengers or more in the vehicle where marked, or you will receive an extra charge! Tolls are tracked and will be submitted through Turo as soon as available through ExpressTolls. All toll roads in Denver are optional, but are often the fastest route, so your GPS may try to route you to them even if other options are available.

Faqs

  • How does this explorer do in the snow?

It does great! It has all-wheel drive, controlled by a switch near the gear shift. Just move to the "snow" button and you are set! The explorer has new tires as of October 2020 which handle great in the snow.

  • Can I take this vehicle off-road?

This is not intended as an off-road vehicle. Dirt road? Sure. High ground clearance or body damage possible? Definitely not.
