Description

A great 2017 Ford Explorer All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Sport for your trip or whatever your need is! The sport model is turbocharged and has nearly every feature available minus the bucket seats in the rear, and the massaging seats option. Leather Heated/cooled (in the front) seats, heated steering wheel, weathertech floormats throughout, tinted windows, and a turbocharged engine, this is a very comfortable and fun car even on long road trips! A great vehicle for a tall driver... I'm 6' 8" and I fit very comfortably, but also perfectly comfortable for shorter drivers and passengers! All-wheel drive does amazingly well in the snow. SEATING - This explorer can seat up to 7 (two buckets in front, 3 in bench seat in the middle, and two in the very back) plus some room for luggage, etc. with leather seats all around and heated/cooled front seats. The back seats can be put down for more cargo and fewer people. The very back seat can fold down independently (you can fold down one seat or both) for more cargo space if seats are not needed, as can the center seat. ELECTRONICS - The vehicle features Apple Carplay or Android Auto, but using these options requires your phone to sync with and trust the vehicle... which is up to you. You can still plug in your phone to charge without using Carplay/Android Auto, just by not installing or trusting the software when prompted. There are USB plugs in the console beneath the stereo (tucked into the compartment in front of the gear shifter), in the center console, and in the rear of the center console for backseat passengers (4 total). The vehicle manual has some details on the stereo and the various menu options. The vehicle does come with built-in GPS but I find it rather confusing to use and generally rely on google maps/apple maps/waze instead. You can sync with bluetooth to play your music or take phone calls using the vehicle speakers and microphone. KEY - The explorer uses a proximity key, meaning it just has to be near the vehicle to unlock the doors, and be inside the vehicle to start the car. The doors will not automatically lock if the key leaves the vicinity! If the vehicle is running and the key leaves the vehicle, the horn will honk. When you arrive, if doing a contactless pickup, the key will come in an RFID blocking pouch - there is a good reason for this! If it isn't in the pouch or wrapped in aluminum foil, you might be able to lock the doors, but anyone will be able to unlock the vehicle just by testing the door handle. It is VERY important if you are leaving the car at the airport or another contactless destination that you leave the key in the provided pouch, then lock the doors with the door lock button, and leave. Test the door after you exit to make it will not unlock. SKI RACK/FISHING POLE RACK OR BIKE RACK - Bringing your skis in the winter, or fishing equipment/bikes in the summer? Great, this vehicle is for you, with several ski rack/rooftop luggage rack/hitch or roof bike mounts, etc. If you for sure want these items, make sure I know your desire! Note that I will generally include a collapsable stool/step ladder in the car to make reaching things on the roof easier if you have requested the ski rack, cargo box, or rooftop bike mounts. -SKI RACK - This explorer has a Yakima Fatcat 4 Ski Rack that can safely transport up to 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards, or fishing poles if you prefer. Ski rack cannot be installed with the cargo box (below) at the same time. SKI RACK IS INCLUDED NO EXTRA CHARGE, SO LONG AS YOU REQUEST IT! -BIKE RACK - There are two optional bike racks. You can choose both options if you'd like for the same price. - Option 1 - For easier access and more bikes, the vehicle can come with a Yakima Fulltilt 4 hitch mounted rack, which securely holds up to 4 bikes. This rack will tilt away from the vehicle to allow access to the rear hatch. - Option 2 is one or two Yakima Forklift fork-mount style rack installed on the roof. As this is a fork-mount style, you'll need to make sure you have room in either the cargo box (below) or the trunk of the explorer for your front wheel. You can have both the cargo box AND the bike rack on at the same time, in fact you can likely have both bike racks and the cargo box at the same time though it'd be a squeeze. If you plan on using the roof-mount bike rack, please ensure you can safely lift your bike above 6 foot tall. I will include a stool, but I would really prefer you not scratch the vehicle lifting the bike in place, or hurt yourself doing so! ROOF CARGO BOX - As an extra option if you think you'll need extra space or you'd like to keep your skis, poles, boots, camping equipment, luggage, etc. out of the weather but also safe and secure, the cargo box is a great option. Roof cargo box is a Yakima Skybox 12, and offers 12 square feet of space and holds skis up to 215cm long! Weight recommendation for cargo box is 60 pounds reasonably evenly distributed. As a note, the cargo box will require the key to unlock, and it won't allow you to remove the key unless the box is locked again... and the box won't lock unless the lid is shut tightly! If you can't get the key out, be sure the lid is shut entirely and the latch is locked entirely. I cannot have the cargo box AND the ski rack at the same time. NOTE: If you opt to include the cargo box, the explorer will be 7' 4" tall. This may prevent you from easy access to some parking garages, private garages, etc. so please keep this in mind! Most ski resort parking decks have 8 foot clearance or greater, but you may want to check. I will include a collapsable step ladder in the car to make reaching the cargo box easier. TOLLS - This vehicle comes with a toll pass for use on E-470 or ExpressToll lanes. There are no toll booths on toll roads and charges are applied. The transponder (#3163402) is located behind the rear-view mirror. This can be switched manually from "TOLL" to "HOV". Keep this in "TOLL" unless specifically using HOV lanes, and even then ensure there are 3 passengers or more in the vehicle where marked, or you will receive an extra charge! Tolls are tracked and will be submitted through Turo as soon as available through ExpressTolls. All toll roads in Denver are optional, but are often the fastest route, so your GPS may try to route you to them even if other options are available. SMOKING - This is mentioned elsewhere, but please no smoking in the car! If you'd like to stimulate the Colorado economy and smoke weed while you are here I encourage you to do so, but if you smoke in the car I'll charge a $25 cleaning fee, as this is a major hassle to try to get the smell out! A NOTE ON CLEANING - Turo standard is that the car is reasonably clean when returned. I am rather particular about the cleanliness of my vehicle, and I would highly highly prefer you pay the pre-paid cleaning option rather than trying to clean it yourself, especially if it means taking it to a drive-thru place or doing a poor job of cleaning. I'd much prefer you return it dirty and let me clean it myself, than try to clean it yourself and do a poor job of it. This is $20, which is not much more than you'd pay to get it washed anyway.

Faqs

  • How does this explorer do in the snow?

It does great! It has all-wheel drive, controlled by a switch near the gear shift. Just move to the "snow" button and you are set!

  • Can I take this vehicle off-road?

This is not intended as an off-road vehicle. Dirt road? Sure. High ground clearance or body damage possible? Definitely not.

  • Can I smoke (cigarettes/weed) in the car?

PLEASE DO NOT!!! I get that weed is legal in Colorado and for some travelers that is a new and interesting concept. I highly encourage you to take part in this thriving business that supports thousands of workers in Colorado. However, if I find you've been smoking (cigarettes, weed) in the car I'll charge $25 extra after the fact. Please don't think you can cover up the smell with air fresheners or by driving around with the windows down for a while. The scent lingers.

  • Can you explain the ski rack/cargo roof box/bike rack situation again?

Sure. If you are coming to Colorado to ski or enjoy our great outdoors, you might need somewhere to put your gear, depending on how many people you have traveling with you you might be able to store this in the cabin or you might want to use the roof as an option. There are two options here: - Ski rack/fishing pole rack - A Yakima Fatcat 4, designed to hold 4 skis or 2 snowboards locked securely. There is no extra charge to use the ski rack but you must let me know you want it, it is not always installed. Will include a collapsable step ladder to make access to the roof easier. - Bike rack options - $9/day for either or both. Either a (Option 1) Yakima fulltilt 4 hitch-mount bike rack which holds 4 bikes without requiring lifting bikes to the roof, or (1 or 2) Yakima Forklift fork-mounted roof bike rack. - Roof cargo box - $15/day. A Yakima Skybox 12 allows space to hold your skis, poles, boots, and other gear, as well as luggage or other things you might not have room for in the cabin. Has room for 12 sq. feet of storage and holds approximately 60 pounds evenly distributed. Will keep your gear out of the elements and safe and secure! Will include a collapsable step ladder to make access to the roof easier.
