Faqs

  • Are there any free charging stations on Maui?

There are several: Whole Foods Pi’ilani Village Shopping Center (a free CHADeMO station by EVohana) Most resorts when a guest

  • How do I charge the Tesla?

You can open the Tesla charging port two ways. 1. On the left side of the touchscreen is an overhead illustration of the car. There is a button that says "Port" on that illustration where the port is located (driver's side rear tail light). Push that button. 2. When the car is unlocked you can push on that rear tail light and the charging port will open. In the trunk cargo bin there is a CHAdeMO FastCharge adaptor. In the center console is a Level 2 Tesla charging adaptor that works with most Level 2 chargers on the island. Both adaptors must be plugged into the end of the charging cord at the charging station, then plugged into the Tesla's charging port before charging can begin. Please visit www.plugshare.com for info on all charging stations on Maui.

  • How do I unlock/lock the car?

The Tesla key is a key card, like a hotel key card. Just tap that key card on the exterior of the car below the camera that is between the front door and the rear door on the drivers side to unlock the car. Once all passengers have exited the vehicle and all doors are closed, do the same to lock the car.

  • How do I turn the car off?

The car will turn off when you lock it and the mirrors fold in. There still may be a few sounds coming from the car as some fans continue to operate intermittently to cool the batteries. If the car is below 20 miles remaining the fans will no longer cool in order to conserve energy.

  • How do I start the car?

When you sit in the drivers seat place the key card behind the cup holders on the center console. This will give you 30 seconds to put your foot on the break indicating you are ready to drive. Once your foot is on the break you can click the gear toggle (to the right of the steering wheel) into reverse or drive and you are on your way! If the 30 seconds expires before you have placed your foot on the break and you have removed the key card from the center console, you will have to place the key card back on the center console again and then place your foot on the break.

  • How do I open the trunks?

On the left side of the touchscreen is an overhead illustration of the car. There are two buttons that say "Trunk" on that illustration where the trunks are located, one for the rear trunk and one for the front trunk. Push the button for the trunk you would like to open.

  • Can I make it to Haleakala on one charge with the Tesla?

It has been done from Wailea. On the way up you will lose close to twice as many miles as you are driving but on the way down, with regenerative braking on, you will gain back about half.

Shaun Friendly man, car Is perfect! But there are no fast chargers on the island. And to charge the car on a regular one, it takes 19 hours, it's a hell of a lot. I spent one day of my vacation looking for charging and did not find a free one, or only on the territory of otklya only for guests

Shaun's response

Sergey, I provide everything possible to charge the vehicle with Maui’s infrastructure, both a 110v charger and a J1772 adapter. I even shared a video with you of how to use the J1772 with a level 2 charger, which there are tons of when you were having issues. I can only control what I can and Maui’s charging infrastructure is not one of them. Glad you liked the car and thanks for taking care of it.
