Can I make it to Haleakala on one charge with the Tesla?
Depends on where you leave from. From Wailea you will need at least 230 miles of range. On the way up you will lose close to twice as many miles as you are driving but on the way down, with regenerative braking on, you will gain back about half.
How do I turn the car off?
The car will turn off when you lock it and the mirrors fold in. There still may be a few sounds coming from the car as some fans continue to operate intermittently to cool the batteries. If the car is below 20 miles remaining the fans will no longer cool in order to conserve energy.
How do I start the car?
There is no need to "start the car". Just make sure you have the Key FOB in the car and put it in gear.
How do I open the trunks?
Double click on the trunk or frunk area of the Tesla Model X Key FOB to open each. The trunk can be closed with a double click again or with the button on the trunk door. The frunk must be closed manually with one hand on either side of the Tesla symbol on the hood.
How do I unlock/lock the car?
The Model X will unlock automatically when you walk up to the car with the Key FOB. It will lock again once you walk away. There is no need to "turn off" the car. Alternatively you can double click the roof of the Key FOB to unlock the car or triple click to lock. Be aware that a triple click will automatically close all the doors so make sure no one is in the way.
How do I charge the Tesla?
You can open the Tesla charging port two ways. 1. On the left side of the touchscreen is an overhead illustration of the car. There is a button that says "Port" on that illustration where the port is located (driver's side rear tail light). Push that button. 2. When the car is unlocked you can push on that rear tail light and the charging port will open. In the trunk cargo bin there is a CHAdeMO FastCharge adaptor for the FastCharge Stations. In the center console is a Level 2 Tesla charging adaptor that works with most Level 2 chargers on the island. Both adaptors must be plugged into the end of the charging cord at the charging station, then plugged into the Tesla's charging port before charging can begin. Please visit www.plugshare.com for info on all charging stations on Maui.
Are there any free charging stations on Maui?
There are several: Whole Foods Pi’ilani Village Shopping Center (a free CHADeMO station by EVohana) Most resorts when a guest The only issue is that some free charging stations have issues. Some don’t charge and some charge slowly but others work just fine.

Ryan and Bobby dona great job with their cars. Pick up and drop off was painless with Turo and by far, better than any rental car company; period. This car has tons of room as a Model X and gets around the island great. I'd advise that if you are not staying at a place with a charger, it'd be a good idea to make sure you know where level 3 charging stations are on the island of Maui. We looked everything up ahead of time and after you get adapters seated properly, you can quick charge easily. Just make sure that you check that the chargers are in working order. Hawaii is still modernizing its charging network and I think there are more electric cars than chargers at this point. Chargers are less busy in the morning. Overall, we had a wonderful trip. I'll be using Aloha Luxuries any time I go to the island from now on. They are a local company and kind service that goes above and beyond any other rental experience I've had! Mahalo and Aloha!

Ryan’s car was great and pick up and drop off couldn’t have been easier at the airport. Only downside we ran into was that the charging stations on the island were limited and/or not working properly, and they also were slow to charge. Great overall experience on the island and again, would definitely recommend Ryan’s car.

Chademo adapter was very finicky and Mauis charging infrastructure is weak. Spent 4-5 hours troubleshooting charging and the adapter over our 5 day trip.
Andrew
An amazing car, with the easiest pick up and drop off experience at an airport I’ve ever had. Ryan and Bob provided me with all of the charging information and adapters I needed to keep the car charged. This car fit 6 large adults with two large check bags, 5 carry ons, and various personal bags tightly but comfortably enough that we could make it to our hotel and hour away without making two trips. I would highly recommend this vehicle for your next visit to Maui 🤙🏻
