Description

Our 2013 Ford Escape is the perfect vehicle for the solo, couple, friends or family trip to Maui. The Escape is a compact SUV so it's a tad smaller than others, making it great for maneuvering the windy Road to Hana or even finding parking in congested areas. The Escape also has a sleek design offering generous legroom for both driver and passengers. Between a large glove box, seatback pockets, a trunk, under seat compartments and backseats that collapse individually, you should always have more than enough space to be comfortable. Our SUV has great mileage, running at about 28/mpg so you are free to explore Maui with limited trips to a gas station. Our vehicle has recently been serviced and detailed to ensure everything is functioning perfectly. No issues were found and we are proud to present a clean and affordable ride for your Maui vacation. The Escape account on Turo is remotely managed by two hosts, so if one is unavailable to respond the other will surely get back to you. We appreciate your business AND your visit- Welcome to Maui! KAMA`AINA If you are a Hawaii resident with a Hawaii drivers license, let us know! We would be happy to apply a discounted rate for your visit to the Valley Isle.

Casey and her husband were wonderful hosts. We were traveling during the crazy airline cancellations of December/January 2021/2022. Amidst a ton of flight cancellations and delays there were there for us every step of the way. They even were happy to adjust our charges so that we didn't pay for time that we didn't have the car (even though they couldn't rent it during that time). Communication was excellent. They dropped the car off for us at the airport in the middle of a deluge and were so friendly and sweet during the process. The car itself was nearly immaculate and was a great mid size option for the island. I would have preferred a larger truck, but since we were staying in Hana, I'm glad we got this car! It managed all the windy wild roads without a hiccup and was the perfect size vehicle for our little family of 3. I can't recommend Casey and her husband enough, whether you're renting from them or renting to them I guarantee you are going to have a great experience.

After reading a review on this car about the seatbelt not working and the car being a little disfunctional I was a little worried but decided to risk it anyway. The car was great, it drove when I wanted it to move forward, it stopped when I needed it to, and the AC worked really well. Casey dropped it off with us at the airport at the baggage claim, it was quick easy and painless. I would use this car again and highly recommend to everyone else! Mahalo nui loa!

The vehicle had a faulty drivers seatbelt. Drive the car for 45 minutes before returning it. Casey denied my request to alter the reservation, in my opinion trying to steal money from me since she had the vehicle in her possession. The car makes a bunch of unfriendly sounds, the steering wheel and gear shift are both overly used with pieces of plastic worn off. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND RENTING!! I had issues getting a refund, had to book with enterprise for another car, and was charged $65 for 45 min of use for Casey's car! Not happy camper and not the way I wanted to start my vacation.

Casey Nicole's response

Melony, Thanks for the review. It brings clarity to your confusion with the refund process. As any host is aware, when you rent a car the money goes to Turo and isn’t released to us until 3 days after your trip’s scheduled end. My husband tried to explain this to you (per Turo) but apparently that isn’t easy to process. The steering wheel, gear and seatbelt are fully functional. We appreciate your concern, but still find it rude of you to leave our key in the ignition and the car battery dead.

This Ford Escape is large and roomy, however, it is in need of some TLC. The finish has completely degraded from the top of the steering wheel. The shifter looks as of someone attacked it with a sharp object. There are several loud rattles and chirps from multiple locations in the dashboard. There is a moderate vibration from the motor when idling, when accelerating, and when alternating between the two. There is a loud whirring sound from the rear end which resonates through the cabin, especially at surface street speeds, which sounds as if you are driving a vehicle equiped with aggressive off-road tires (it has summer tires installed). The vehicle smells like hot brakes after driving short distances. When in reverse, the vehicle will not move without pressing the accelerator which makes me think maybe the emergency brake is stuck?! The check engine light was on during our trip. At one point I had released the accelerator, but the vehicle continued to accelerate as I applied the brake. I've never experienced that sensation when driving. Fortunately it happened in a parking lot at low speeds. We found two used covid masks in the center console. The driver side seatbelt does not retract and is loose over my chest as I drive. I don't believe it is appropriate to offer this vehicle for rent in its current condition.

Great, clean, & a per usual older car. Only worrisome issue is that the seatbelts are slow to retract, & definitely would not be saving anyone's life if in an accident. Hosts were also great; only had one miscommunication about what to do for drop off but it was corrected right away.
