Parking details

Jeep is parked near the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). Incorporating an airport pickup and return nearest your airline arrival and departure location - is the most convenient option. We can also coordinate a pickup and/or return at your hotel or BnB; but, this will be based on schedule and availability. If we’re unable to meet in person, the Jeep is equipped with a lock box and remote locking/unlocking system. But this comes with the challenge of coordinating and locating a parking location. If an unattended check-in is preferred at the airport, I'll work on finding the nearest parking stall to your arrival location. However, during busy periods a nearby stall may not be available; so you may need to walk further to get to the parking location. The HNL airport parking complex is relatively small, here's a link depicting its layout for perspective: https://airports.hawaii.gov/hnl/getting-to-from/parking/ If I didn't include a parking option that you prefer, I'm flexible so message me prior to your arrival and we'll work out the details.

Guidelines

This is my weekend beach rig and 1 of 2 vehicles I'm sharing on Turo. I take extra care of the Jeep and provide personal attention-features not found with the normal rental fleet outfits. Please treat the Jeep, island, and yourself with care (Malama), and enjoy with a SAFETY FIRST mindset - Mahalo! Absolutely no smoking or vaping in this Jeep. A hefty cleaning fee of $250 plus any related repair costs will be charged if cigarette or vaping smoke is detected. I love pets but not the cleaning and damage that’s usually involved. So no pets in the Jeep. A hefty $250 cleaning fee plus any related repair cost will be charged to your account if pet odor and damage are found. Entire hard top and doors can be removed upon request. The host is the only person authorized to remove/re-install the hard top and doors for a $75 service fee. But you'll be responsible for major water damage if Jeep is driven in the rain while any part of the hard top and/or doors removed. Parking/Traffic Tickets must be paid directly to the corresponding agency BEFORE the mail notice is received. There’s usually a website address that’s on the ticket that can be used to pay the fine. Be careful around busy areas like Waikiki and Downtown with strict traffic enforcement. More than welcome to message me if you have any traffic concerns and questions. A $100 fee plus traffic/court fines will be added to your account for any ticket where I have to visit traffic court to clear. No Off-Road driving. This is a very grey area as many roads in Hawai’i are not paved. Especially if you're planning on visiting some of the more remote tourist locations. There are certain roads around the island where you’ll be thankful to be in a Jeep. Be careful. Here's the Turo Policy. https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990570-Prohibited-uses Always remember SAFETY FIRST and have a wonderful Hawaiian stay!

Faqs

  • What are your pickup and return instructions?

Best we an airport pick up and return. Per airport officials instructions and/or how busy the airport will be at the time, we may need to shuttle the Jeep and ourselves a few minutes away to a nearby designated waiting area to complete the check-in and/or check-out process. If unable to meet in person for any reason, the Jeep is equipped with a lockbox and can be parked in the nearest available parking stall. It typically takes about a 10-15 minute walk to get from baggage claim to the airport parking garage. We'll message each other to coordinate parking location, directions, and instructions.

  • Do I need to clean/wash the car at the end of my trip?

Yes. Unless you paid for post trip cleaning under Extras. Per Turo cleaning policy, return vehicle in the same clean condition given to you or a cleaning fee will be applied. It’s a Jeep, so some sand and dirt is okay. Try to be mindful to keep clean along the way. But if it's in excess you have the option of cleaning the Jeep at a self service or commercial car hand wash. No automated car washes! Several Turo hosts reported deep scratches and swirl marks from automated car washes around the island. Remember you'll be responsible for any damages. Best not to use them and don’t hesitate to message me if you need cleaning recommendations. If too dirty for the next customer and didn't opt for the post trip cleaning, I'll need to charge a minimum $35 fee for the extra cleaning to prepare for the next customer.

  • Lost or damaged alarm and/or key fob.

No worries it's not the end of the world. Make sure you're in a safe location and notify me as soon as possible. The Jeep key and alarm fob are not water proof. Zip lock bags are known to fail when used as waterproof storage. Do not take Jeep key and alarm fob in the the water. You will be responsible for their replacement. Cost of the replacement key and/or alarm fob ($250+) will be charged to your account plus $1O0 service fee as I'll need to cover for the unscheduled expense/service and for the replacement key and alarm fob that will need to be professionally programmed.

  • Do I need to return the Jeep with a full tank of gas?

Yes. Unless you opted for prepaid fuel in Extras. I understand that this happens when you wanna catch a few more waves before heading to the airport. Now you find yourself rushed to make your flight and forgot to fill the gas up. If the Jeep is not returned with a full tank - no worries: a $10 surcharge plus missing gas will be charged to your account - receipt will be provided.

  • What kind of gas does this Jeep use?

    Regular 87 octane is fine.

  • Jeep gets towed or a ticket?

Towed - It will be your responsibility to get it out of the impound lot. If I'm involved, charges associated with the towing and a $100 fee will be added to your account to help cover my expenses and service. Tickets - It will be your responsibility to pay for any tickets during your trip. A local government payment website link is usually on the ticket that accepts payment. If I need to be present in traffic court to clear the ticket, a $100 fee will be charged to your account to help cover for my expenses and service. Turo will back date tickets to your account.

  • What if Jeep stalls or unable to start.

I frequently maintain my Jeep and go through an inspection prior to releasing the Jeep to guests. But in the case the Jeep stalls or doesn't start, contact me and we'll coordinate with Turo to make sure you're safe and receive assistance. Here's Turo's policy in this regards: https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990690-Roadside-assistance-for-guests-US-and-Canada

  • Is Oahu safe?

Most tourist areas are generally safe; but, you should stay alert and avoid deserted and high risk areas, especially at night. Different areas on Oahu have different levels of safety; so it's best to stay informed. From a person who grew up on Oahu, the following areas I would consider highest risk: Makaka and Waianae (Gorgeous shoreline but definitely stay alert) Waipahu and Wahiawa (Very little tourist attractions here so not worth the risk) Ewa Beach (It's a local community with social challenges. Several beach locations but stay alert) Safest areas would be: East Honolulu (Kahala - Hawaii Kai) Kailua (My current home town) Here's a website where you could corroborate my recommendations. https://usaestaonline.com/most-dangerous-places-in-hawaii "Hawaii is a very safe place to be as it is what many people consider paradise."

  • Does the Jeep come equip with navigation?

Yes if your phone has Apple Maps or Google Maps functioning and is connected to the Jeep’s ApplePlay or AndroidAuto system via cable. The way our roads accommodate the island topography can get confusing - getting lost is common for visitors and locals alike.

  • What is a Jeep wave?

Jeep Wrangler drivers are known to wave at each other when passing from opposite directions. It’s courteous and part of an enduring Jeep culture. A Jeep wave can be a peace or a Shaka sign in Hawaii.

  • What is the Hawaiian Shaka sign.

Starting with an open palm facing you, fold down your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers to make a shaka sign. Hang loose,” “Right on,” “Thank you,” “Things are great,” “Take it easy” – in Hawaii, the shaka sign expresses all those friendly messages and more. When someone waves at you with a Shaka sign, you return the gesture with another shaka sign.

  • What if I’m running late?

No worries and no rush. Remember, safety first. Besides I’m flexible. Message me if you think you’re gonna be running late. I like to maintain a buffer of at least 3 days between bookings if not longer. So there’s a good chance delays will not affect another customer’s booking. We will confirm your flight information before you arrive so I can monitor any flight delays.

  • Asking for directions in local lingo.

We don’t use the cardinal directions of North, South, West, and East very much here. Instead we use the island topography and major communities to describe directions: Mauka - Mountain side. Makai - Ocean side Windward - Northeast side of island. Direction where the persistent Tradewinds are blowing from. Town - Commercial areas along Oahu’s South shore. Ko’olaus - the mountain range that runs from the east point to the most northerly point of the island. Ewa bound - Heading West. Town bound - Heading South.

This Jeep was PERFECT for our family of 5. Enough space for all to sit comfortably and to carry our luggage. A full tank of gas was able to last the entire 6 days with many lengthily trips. The car was very clean and included a pretty nifty Bluetooth/radio system! John was very accommodating and thorough with pick up/ drop off information which helped both encounters go very smoothly. John also provided a very helpful cooler so we could pack snacks, sandwiches, and drinks during our trip. This rental and experience with John & Turo was a 10/10!
