Guidelines

NO SMOKING, PLEASE! Or we'll have to charge the primary driver professional cleaning expense. We love pets, but only service animals are allowed. Please do enjoy the beautiful beaches of O'ahu! Just wrap yourself with good towel or change into dry clothing before getting back in the car, and don't get sand all over the car (dashboards, hard surfaces, chairs, etc) for this causes salt water stains. Flip the mats out of the car to empty the sand. Reasonable vacuuming upon returning, please. If you get sick/eliminate in the car, there will be extra $250.00+ charge to primary driver. Mahalo for your Kokua!

RENTER BEWARE! Rented the GMC Terrain for a total of 9 hours. I made the mistake of not taking photos of the vehicle before driving away (rookie mistake) as I was in a rush. Returned the vehicle after 9 hours of uneventful driving (total of less than 160 miles) and immediately Marcus points out a scrape on the right front bumper. He stated that this bumper scrape was new. He claimed that it wasn't there when I picked up the vehicle earlier in the morning. Of course, I had no proof that it was pre-existing since I neglected to take the photos before driving away. Marcus was there when I picked up the vehicle and noticed that I didn't take any pictures before taking possession of the vehicle. Did he recommend that I take pictures of the vehicle before driving off? No. Instead, he asked me what I did for a living and I answered that I was a doctor. Then we had a brief, friendly chat regarding our common bond (both first-generation Vietnamese immigrants), after which I went on my way. Nine hours and less than 200 miles of driving later, the bumper scratch was now being pinned on me. I've been driving the past 20 years without a single incident and suddenly I'm responsible for the bumper scratch that I did not cause. Marcus kindly (and quickly) offered me the solution of reimbursing him directly for this damage. Luckily, I wasn't born yesterday. Even though I did not document the pre-existing damage, having driven this GMC throughout the day, I knew it was highly unlikely the scrape happened during the 9 hours that it was in my possession. I distinctly remembered the three places I parked (Dole plantation, Pho King in Wahiawa, and Manoa Falls Trail) and those parking spaces were ample without any tight-fitting adjacent vehicles. I certainly was not involved in any fender benders. Additionally, the fact that the vehicle already had 122K miles, a constant engine knock, a check engine light that was always on and a TMPS light that was always on, clued me in to the fact that this vehicle had gone through quite a bit. So what did I do? I called his bluff. I declined to pay him directly for the scraped bumper and told him to submit a claim since I had purchased the insurance AND I had comprehensive coverage through my own insurance. So the claim was submitted and today, I received notice from the Turo Claims department that the claim was closed for the following reason: "the damage claim and file had been closed because we found you are not responsible and didn't do anything to the vehicle....the damages on the bumper, based on the information we have on file, were pre-existing damages". So, there you have it. Pre-existing damage, pinned on a renter that he noticed did not take any photos at the time of pick up, a renter that he knew was a doctor and first-time Turo user, somebody that maybe he thought would be easily intimidated or easily taken advantage of, i.e. an easy target. Well as it turns out, people who go through medical school usually aren't dumb. And people who partake in fraudulent activities that border on criminal, eventually get caught. What goes around, comes around. This one-star, in-depth and detailed review is the come-around. Rent from Marcus if you want to support "hosts" that have these traits. This bad first experience will not deter me from using Turo again, but I will definitely be more vigilant in the future, even if the host is a fellow countryman.

Marcus's response

Wow... you have alot to say. I'm sorry you felt that way Phung. Your assumptions should be corrected but I will refrained. Turo support cleared it up on your behalf and I agreed. No further problems. Thanks for allowing me to host you.

This was our first Turo experience. Marcus was very nice and helpful. We were grateful to have a vehicle the right size for our family and reasonably priced. It was a great experience.
