Guidelines

We want you to enjoy the car and experience how fun it is to drive. You have a lot of power in your hands so please take extra care to drive carefully and be courteous to others on the road. Keep in mind that we track the vehicle's location and speed at all times. All driving data is recorded and stored by Tesla on their servers and available to us and law enforcement in real-time. Data includes real-time and historical values of acceleration, speed, braking pressure, location, as well as video footage taken by all Tesla’s external cameras. Dangerous Driving Policy: We will remotely limit acceleration and top speed if we detect reckless driving. If at any point the vehicle is travelling 40 km per hour over the speed limit even for a split second, we will bill you $400 per instance regardless of you being ticketed or not. This is the speed at which law enforcement will impound the car for 7 days. If the car is impounded, you will additionally be billed for towing fees, storage fees, and a 7-day rental charge. If you fail to respond to our request to drive safely, we will actively report to law enforcement and provide all data including historical and current speed and vehicle location as well as your personal information so that they will come retrieve the car and end your reservation. Must be 25+ with a valid driver's licence to rent. Tesla Superchargers will bill idle fees ($0.65-$1.30 / min) if the car is not removed once charging is complete. To avoid this cost, check the time estimate before you walk away and plan to be back 15 mins before the estimate. Tap the green energy icon on the top left of the screen to see estimate. Charging often completes ahead of time. Mandatory taxes and security deposit will be charged at pick up via credit card. See description above for more details. Prohibited vehicle uses include: - Taking the vehicle outside of Canada or the United States. - Driving off-road, on unpaved roads, or on a race track. - Using vehicle in any race, test, competition, or allowing the car to lose tire traction on purpose. - Driving in water that is higher than the bottom of the doors. - Towing or pushing anything. - Allowing vehicle to be pushed or towed by anyone who we do not authorize directly. - Using vehicle with intention to cause damage, or with reckless disregard for safety. - Using vehicle to carry passengers or property for hire. - Making any alterations, additions, or improvements to the vehicle without permission. - Driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug/medication under the effects of which the operation of a vehicle is prohibited by law. - Operating the vehicle a way that is prohibited by law. Do reach out if you have any questions at all. 778.384.0105

Faqs

  • Is insurance included?

Insurance through ICBC as part of your rental includes $5,000,000 of Third Party Liability, $300,000 Accidents Benefits, Hit and Run Protection for driver and passengers, Underinsured Motorist Protection to $1,000,000, and damage due to theft, third party vandalism, fire, earthquake, explosion, falling or flying objects, hitting a domestic or wild animal, and weather — lighting, windstorm, hail, rising water. You are still responsible for up to a $3000 deductible in the event of an accident if you are at fault, partially at fault, or if no one else is at fault.

  • Can I have additional drivers?

You may have one additional driver at no extra cost and any additional drivers at $15/day each. They are required to have a valid license, be over 25 years old, and sign the rental agreement online. No one else is permitted or covered by insurance to drive the vehicle except those who have signed the rental agreement.

  • Is there a security deposit?

A $1500 security deposit will be taken by credit card prior to pickup. Photos of the current conditions of the vehicle will be uploaded to your Turo trip page prior to delivery and existing issues will be noted. Upon return, we will inspect the vehicle for any new damages. You are responsible for all parking or driving violation tickets incurred during the rental. If there are no damages or outstanding fees, the full deposit will be processed the same day and automatically returned to you within 2-7 days*. If there are damages or outstanding fees, the deposit will be used towards the payment of those fees and the remaining returned to you. We will send you an invoice for damages or fees beyond what the security deposit covers and may forward the balance owing to a collections agency if necessary. *Our payment company Square will issue the refund within this time frame, but once it reaches your credit card company, they may take a couple more days to return it to you.

  • What are my deductibles and what damages are not covered by the insurance?

You are fully responsible for any interior or exterior damages to the vehicle that the insurance does not cover. Please be aware of any sharp edges on your clothing or gear that you bring into the vehicle. Please do not lean on, sit on, or stand on any part of the exterior as the black paint is extra delicate and will scratch easily if things rub against it. Damages that require paint correction will incur a $250 fee. Damages that require repainting will incur the cost of repair by a Tesla approved body shop. Windshield damages have a $300 dollar deductible regardless of fault. Any scratches on the wheels are $250 each. Accelerated tire wear due to purposefully causing loss of track traction results in a fee equal to full cost of replacing all four tires from a Tesla Service Center. We measure tire tread depth before and after the rental. No smoking, e-cigarettes, or vaping. A $300 cleaning fee applies if this is violated. The costs of other damages will be evaluated by getting a quote from a Tesla Service Center for repair. Falcon Wing Doors Damages: You are fully responsible for damages to the falcon wing doors. These are not covered by the insurance or warranty if they hit an obstacle. The falcon wing doors will not detect all obstacles when opening or closing under low or uneven ceilings. Always supervise operation and be ready to grab it before it hits something.

  • What happens if I run out of battery?

There is no "reserve" fuel in the battery below 0%. According to Tesla, running the battery down to 0% is damaging. A $300 fee plus cost of towing will apply if you have to be towed for running out of battery due to negligence. The Tesla navigation system will help you avoid this problem by showing you round-trip battery estimates. Always give yourself extra energy in extremely cold temperatures since the range can be reduced by up to 30%

  • Do I have to recharge the car before I return it?

Most likely not. You may return the vehicle with very little battery charge left. However you must return it with at least 25 km (5%) of range. There is a $50 fee if it is below this charge level and a $150 fee if it is below 10 km (2%) of range.

  • How do I recharge the Tesla and how much does it cost?

Charging at Tesla Superchargers is included. However, once charging completes, idle fees (around $19-$39 / 30 mins) will be billed to you if the vehicle is not unplugged and removed. This is automatically billed by Tesla and we will bill you for it. To avoid this cost, check the time estimate before you walk away and plan to be back 15 mins before the estimate. To see the estimate, tap the green energy icon on the top left corner of the screen. Charging often completes ahead of time. Download the ChargePoint app and sign up to use the many Flo or ChargePoint locations across North America. Most in Vancouver are free to use. Be sure to pay for parking even if charging is free. Adaptors are found in the car and should allow you to use most charging stations. Normal wall outlets also work but it charges the car at an extremely slow rate, about 6km (1.2%) per hour.

  • Is there Autopilot?

Tesla Autopilot is available by enabling it through the car settings while it is in park. Please read the Tesla warning screen that pops up. You must only activate it while on a highway. It does not factor in stops signs and traffic lights or cross traffic at the moment. Autopilot will not handle most unique situations correctly so the driver must actually pay more attention than normal to be able to take over control at any second. Autopilot may wrongly detect obstacles that do not exist and swerve or brake suddenly. This is why you need to hold the steering wheel with both hands strongly enough so that if it attempts to turn into danger such as oncoming traffic, your tight hold will override it. All active safety features that use Autopilot technology are enabled automatically including collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking. This does not mean Model X will avoid all crashes, but it will attempt to reduce the severity of it when a crash is unavoidable.

  • Where can I take the car?

Pretty much anywhere in Canada or the United States. We don't limit how far in Canada and the United States you are allowed to take the car but you would probably only want to go where there are Superchargers. Currently in Canada there are Superchargers all the way up to Whistler, and all the way through Calgary to Edmonton. In the United States they are evenly spread throughout most places. You are not permitted to take the vehicle outside of Canada and the United States You must not take the car off-roading, on dirt roads, or on unpaved roads.

  • What do I need for pickup?

You will need a valid driver's license and a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JBC) for the security deposit and taxes. Your license must be valid in Canada (and in the United States if you plan on taking the car there). I will always do my best to personally deliver the Tesla to you and I am always more than happy to give you a guided tour of the basic and advanced features if I'm there in person. In case I'm not available for your specific pickup time, I will either have someone deliver it or leave it somewhere easy for you to pick up. We would do all paperwork online. You would need to sign the rental agreement online, email me a picture of your drivers license, and submit the security deposit online. Please contact me if you have any questions at all about the delivery experience. I will do everything I can to make it as seamless as possible for you.

  • Will I have access to the Tesla app.

Access to the Tesla app on the phone will not be provided because it requires Tesla account login and the account contains confidential and personal information.

Check out Nathan if you’re curious about trying on a Tesla for the first time or are looking for a reliable renter. Nathan made everything easy. He was quick to respond, flexible with the pick up/return time and location, came early, and made sure the car was impeccably clean. Nathan gave me a friendly rundown of all the features when he handed over the car key. He also offered to help anytime throughout my rental. Teslas are not your typical rental car so that can come in handy. Nathan is very detailed oriented and the nicest guy out there. Needless to say the car was amazing and you’ll love driving it!
