Description

It's the Mystery Machine!!! Straight out of Scooby Doo. We all think we're one of the cool kids, but wait until you see kids of all ages (even older than you) flip out when you show up in this thing -- everyone looses their freaking minds. Everywhere you drive people are taking pictures and giving you the thumbs-up. Fun for kids of all ages (I'm 51 and love it, it's my daily driver, and my 11 year old son loves it even more). Drop down monitors play the original Scooby Doo episodes on DVD from 1969, or you can pop in newer episodes/movies (or any DVD you want too). Includes "Zombie Lights" (green glow under the car), "Sasquatch Lights" (flashers), and a horn that can honk or play the iconic "Rooby Rooby Roo!!!" Seats seven, six with 3 point belts. That's two captain chairs up front, two captains chairs in the middle, and a three person bench in the back (3 point seat-belts on the left and right side of the bench, only a lap belt in the middle). The middle captain chairs can rotate 180 degrees and the rear bench folds down to make a full size bed, sheets included. Room behind the rear seat for luggage, and space down the center aisle too. Optional Recaro Booster seat available for free. You can see out, but not in, the big side bay windows. Great cruising vehicle, I've taking it from Disneyland to Death Valley to Oregon to Reno and everywhere inbetween. Gets surprisingly good mileage with the little v6, but it's not fast. It has a Starcraft interior, this was a big deal in the conversion van scene back in the day -- extra insulation, super comfy captains chairs, etc. Comes with a working FasTrak "Toll Tag" (transponder). Gives you access to express lanes, toll roads, bridge fast lanes, etc. both in the Bay Area and around the State of California. If you just use it for a bridge or three then I won't bother to seek reimbursement. If you use it a bunch, though, let me know and I'll just pass the charges through to you. Car is located 14 miles from SFO, 25 miles from SJC, 29 miles to OAK. You can Uber to my place and probably pick it up in less time than you can get a car from Enterprise/Avis/Whatever. Also available on Turo Valet at SFO (they meet you curbside and take you 5min away to hand off at their lot).

Prepaid refuel

Save time, make drop-off a breeze, and avoid additional fees by adding this Extra.. Return fuel at any level. Note: this full size conversion van has a 32 gallon tank, that's $120 to fill at average CA prices. You could come out ahead on this one.

$89/trip

Child safety seat

I have two high-end Recaro seats. Our kids already grew up in them, so they are far from pristine, but they're 100% functional and you're welcome to use them for free. More info: https://bit.ly/2Lrnn51

Parking details

Park in driveway, dedicated spot.

Guidelines

Dogs welcome. No smoking. DO NOT WASH exterior, car wash could destroy the Mystery Machine. It's hand wash only and I have an affordable (below my cost) option to do that for you for a no-hassle return -- see the Car Wash option under "Extras". Otherwise you're welcome to do it yourself. You can even use my hose/bucket/vacuum/etc. here if you want to, but it takes about an hour FWIW.

Faqs

  • Is this as fun as it looks?

Yes, it's the most fun you will ever have driving a car. When you look out the window you will see people taking pictures of the car and giving you thumbs-up. You can signal back with the horn (that says "SCOOBY-DOOBY-DOO!!!)

  • Wait, is that really a Caravan?

No, it's a Dodge Ram Van, 2001, with a Starcraft interior. Turo assigned me the Caravan model designation and I can't change it. A 1970's carpenter van or a VW bus might match the cartoon better (in some episodes the engine is in the front, others in the back), but then you wouldn't have ABS, airbags, 3 point belts, etc. that you get with this more modern vehicle...

  • Can I take it to Burning Man?

Yes, and this car would be GREAT for it. Bed in the back. Super fun. I encourage you to go. but ... the dust on the playa is highly alkaline and really ages a car. The type of cleaning it needs afterwards, full detail, engine bay detail, under carriage wash, etc. is expensive and still won’t get it all out. I have unabashedly increased the rate and require a 7 day minimum for anytime during the burn. Of course, probably just like your own car, and every other car at Burning Man, you can't take it off road and have it be insured too. So keep that in mind.

The Mystery Machine provided the makings for a fantastic Halloween! Our daughters were beyond excited when they recognized me in the van. It will go down as one of the best Halloween’s ever. The Mystery Machine is just as awesome inside as out: first class sound system, built in dvd screens, comfy chairs, and pimped out Scooby Doo features. Epic van!
