Description

Be treated like a local when you rent this island van! Kauai is an island where you need a vehicle to truly explore it and appreciate it. Rent Geri, a clean, reliable, and spacious 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan! The AC works very well and it's very spacious, great for fitting in a family or a group of friends. This van has a CD player and radio with a great sound system so that you can listen to your favorite jams as you cruise around the island. Geri is well-maintained and is up-to-date on safety inspections per Hawai'i state and Turo standards. Brand new tires were placed on the vehicle on March 17th, 2022. If you're worried about rising gasoline prices, you're in luck, Geri comes with the Economy mode, which helps you to save on gas! My husband and I clean our car with an aerosolized ozone treatment and a natural thyme oil surface disinfectant (Bioesque, it kills 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and molds) prior to each rental for maximum cleanliness so that you don't have to worry about bacteria or viruses like coronavirus, norovirus, or influenza. Additionally, this disinfectant eliminates 99.9% of most allergens. We can make arrangements to meet you at the airport or at a hotel to drop off your vehicle. Returns are just as easy. We also offer contact-less delivery and returns. We want your vacation to go well, and we provide all of our renters with a list of our favorite island spots to enjoy, just like the locals do. Legal Disclosure: This vehicle is not meant for off-road driving. Please drive only on paved roads. If you do drive off-road (on an un-paved road), you assume responsibility for any fees or damages for getting stuck in the mud or sand with this car. By agreeing to rent this car, you accept full responsibility for any towing fees and fines for a stuck/unmoveable car by the Hawai'i state/Department of Transportation/Kaua'i county, etc; and you accept responsibility to any damage the car may receive while driving off-road. Keep in mind, these fines from the state could be thousands of dollars per day. This legal disclaimer paragraph notifies you, the renter, that you are responsible to pay for any fines or damages related to off-road driving (as defined as driving on an un-paved surface), and by renting this car, you automatically agree to pay these fines/damages, if accrued. I, the car owner, will have no legal responsibility of paying any off-road driving fines; all of these fees will be legally passed on to you, the renter/driver of the vehicle.

Guidelines

No smoking of any kind (cannabis, cigarettes, or vaping) is allowed inside of the vehicle. You will be charged a fine if a smoke smell is detected. Please do your best not to get the vehicle very sandy or muddy. This could result in extra fees for you, so please treat the vehicle with respect like it is your own car. Off-road driving is not permitted. There is a hefty fine that you will be charged for off-roading, so do not even consider it. Please see the legal disclosure in the details above. Hawai'i is prone to bugs; please discard of food waste in a timely manner to help keep the car bug free! Mahalo!

Faqs

  • Are there any fees to visit state park locations, or reservations needed to visit certain locations?

Yes, in the Waimea Canyon/Koke'e state park and at Haena there are fees for non-Hawaii state residents to park and enter. See https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/parks/kauai/waimea-canyon-state-park/ for more information. For camping information, please see https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/camping-lodging/kauai/ . Reservations are required to visit Haena State Park https://gohaena.com/ and you need to make reservations to catch their shuttle in (unless you are a Hawai'i resident--then parking is first come/first serve at the actual park location). To tour the Kilauea Lighthouse and for information, reservations need to be made at https://www.fws.gov/refuge/Kilauea_Point/visit/plan_your_visit.html ; the link for reservations is on that page.

  • Does Hawaii have a mask mandate?

As of March 26th, the indoor mask mandate has been dropped. See https://hawaiicovid19.com/mask-guidance/ for the latest Hawai'i state mask policy.

  • Does Kaua'i have a vaccine passport requirement?

No. After March 26th, Hawaii is taking away all vaccine passport requirements on all islands. Before March26th, to access certain state locations, like the Lodge at Koke'e, you do need to have a vaccine passport or proof of a negative test within 72 hours if you plan on being in the Lodge for greater than 15 minutes. If you want to just go in and order some of their delicious coffee, you can just go in for less than 15 minutes. I've had guests who weren't even asked about proof of their status; so it just depends on their staff. The only other place on the island that I am aware of that requires a negative test or vaccine passport is our state libraries. I recommend that you visit a cute, little bookstore that doesn't have these requirements. It's called, Talk Story Bookstore, and it is located in the historic artsy town of Hanapepe.

  • Where is the cheapest place to buy gasoline? Any gasoline station tips/hours that I should be aware of?

The most inexpensive gasoline on the island will be at COSTCO, located in Lihue at 4300 Nuhou St., Lihue, HI, 96766. You do need a COSTCO membership to purchase gas at their pumps, and you have to use a debit/credit/COSTCO gift card in order to pay. Their hours are during store hours and ends an hour after their store closes. Here is their website with times of services: https://www.costco.com/warehouse-locations/kauai-lihue-(kauai)-hi-640.html . Other local gas stations can be unreliable on their times/availability of service. Here are the 24/7 locations I am aware of: Circle K in Lihue, Shell gas station in Koloa, and the Shell gas station in Kapaa. Most other gas stations close around 6pm, so plan accordingly when it comes to filling up. If you do run out of gas, please call me and I'll be happy to assist you.

  • Do you have any other tips for being a responsible visitor to Kaua'i?

Do not off-road (you'll get stuck in the mud or the sand, which will have hefty fines); stick to driving on paved roads that are maintained. Also, please respect the gentle eco-system of our island, which has many endangered plant and animal species (in the ocean, rivers, and forests) that are native to this island alone. Keep in mind that you should use reef safe sunscreen here (other types of sunscreen are illegal) and please do not step on the reefs. Please pick up your opala (trash) and dispose it in the proper waste receptacle. Try to leave the island better than when you arrived, by sharing the aloha spirit with everyone you meet (just be stoked). Trust me, you'll enjoy your vacation more if you smile and try to relax during your vacation. If there is anything my husband or I can do to make your trip more enjoyable, please do not hesitate to reach out to us, before or during your stay here on beautiful Kaua'i. The world has grown into an increasingly more stressful place, but that doesn't mean that your vacation needs to be that way.

The van was a little bit older, but got us around the island just fine. Communication with Dorothy was easy and she was very helpful and accommodating. I would recommend her to others who are looking for a large spacious minivan.

Dorothy's response

Hi David! I’m glad the van worked well for you and your family and that your trip was a good one. Yes, our van is older but it has low mileage for the year, and we take great care in maintaining it along with doing routine check ups with our mechanic. Our goal is to get newer vehicles into our fleet, and thank you so much for your business, because you’re helping us to reach that goal. Hopefully we will see you on a future Kauai trip! Mahalo nui loa! Take care of yourselves & be well. -Dorothy
