Faqs

  • Since this is an EV, will I be able to take trips outside Tucson? Can I go to Phoenix?

TRIPS TO PHOENIX ARE TECHNICALLY POSSIBLE BUT STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. The Leaf is ideal for staying in and getting around Tucson to all the must see destinations like the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Sabino Canyon, downtown museums & shopping, the DeGrazia Gallery, Tohono Chul Park, Tucson Botanical Gardens, Reid Park Zoo, U of A, etc. **Keep in mind, charging takes time, even at a fast charging station, so planning your trips around charging and "topping off" the charge whenever you can is key to worry-free EV driving!** Out of town trips to destinations 70 miles or less outside of Tucson are doable and have been done by past Turo customers with some planning and patience. Taking longer trips means that you will be stopping to charge the car on your way to your destination and on your way back. Past customers have gone to Benson, Willcox, Sahuarita, Green Valley, and Sierra Vista. It is possible to go to Tombstone. Other destinations are possible with planning. PLEASE CONSULT WITH ME AHEAD OF TIME SOI CAN HELP YOU PLAN SHORT OUT OF TOWN TRIPS! Running out of juice on the road and having to be towed sucks big time. I know, I've done it before :-(

  • How much will it cost to charge?

Charing is free if you use ChargePoint and Blink charging stations or if you plug in where you are staying. The Leaf comes with everything you need; cards for ChargePoint and Blink charging stations and an EV charging plug and a 50' extension cord for household outlet (110v) recharging. I'll give you full instructions on how to keep the Leaf juiced and ready to go! Charging at EVGo, Electrify America, or any other charging station other than Blink or ChargePoint are at your expense. Costs to charge using one of their charging stations is by the kW hour, just like your electric bill, and can be up to $20+ if the battery is really low.

  • I wasn't paying attention and I've run low on miles. What happens now?

When the Leaf has about 16 miles left of charge you'll get a warning you need to get to a charging station ASAP. If you ignore that warning at about 3-4 miles left the Leaf will slow down to a crawl. At that point you need to pull over to a safe location and call AAA or a towing service to tow you to the nearest charging location. If you don't have AAA, call me and I'll use my AAA membership to get you towed.

  • Is charging a hassle? Where can I charge?

Tucson has over 60 charging spots and it just takes a little planning to make sure there's plenty of charge to keep you going. A printed spreadsheet with charging location addresses is in the glovebox. Download the ChargePoint, Blink, EVgo, and Electrify America phone apps prior to your trip so you can find stations and know if they are available before driving to them. If you're staying somewhere with an regular 110v outside outlet you can plug the Leaf in overnight or whenever you've got it parked. **Please keep in mind, it takes time to charge, the lower the charge the longer it takes to charge up. So, keeping the charge up and plugging in before the battery drops below 40 miles is a good strategy. Charging times can vary from 30 minutes to overnight 8-10 hours, depending on how low the charge is and where you are charging. Generally an hour or so at a ChargePoint or Blink station will get you 25 miles of charge.**

  • Does using the AC or heater reduce the charge?

Yes it does! Smart of you to ask. Running the AC or heat uses up battery power and can drop the range by 6-15 miles. Something to keep in mind if you plan on driving on hot or cold days.

  • Do I get 1 mile of travel for every 1 mile of charge?

Only under optimal conditions. You get one for one when you stay under 45MPH on flat roads and don't run the AC or heat. The battery charge is just like gas, the faster you go and the more there's an incline the less efficient the engine is and you get less than a mile for every mile of charge.
