Truly the worst experience ever. Here is the email complaint I sent to Turo: I don't even know where to start, but I'll try; furthermore, I urge you to forward the following to Turo's legal department because I'm confident they'll be disturbed to know these kinds of situations are occurring: On the day I had scheduled my rental (which notably I scheduled weeks before yet that evidently avoided no inconvenience for me), I took an Uber to the location for pickup of the car (which I specifically chose for its especially small size in consideration of the difficulty that is parking in San Francisco) and the host did not let me know that the car was neither at the pickup location nor ready for my use! When I called the host, she told me one of the car's windows had been smashed in the night before--this could have been avoided by letting me know this, but as you'll read further this host is, for lack of a better word, a scam artist. This host then switched me to another car at a TOTALLY DIFFERENT LOCATION that had A MECHANICAL WARNING LIGHT ON, AND it had so many dents/scratches, I was shocked Turo approved the use of this car, but something tells me this host submitted misrepresentative photos for her host approval application since the person I spoke to who was supposed the host was not Nicola as was identified/specified in the application! (More on that below.) I felt unsafe AND the host absurdly insisted this other car was an upgrade--it was not; it was barely functioning. The passenger side mirror controls did not work (which is obviously also a safety issue), and when I told the host as much, I received no response. At this point, I had no other choice for an immediate car rental, so I drove in that car, uncomfortable all day, worrying it could break down at any moment. NOTE: The host is listed as Nicola on the app and is clearly a man, but the person I spoke to on the phone who identified herself as the host was clearly not Nicola but a woman with a name that starts with B--I forget because it was an atypical name. And I know this because it was shown in the Uber as the person who ordered the Uber for me to get to the location of this other car. THEN, at the end of the day the host who had AGREED TO REIMBURSE ME in the beginning of the day for all of the inconvenience that had occurred up until that point, had the incredible audacity to hold my reimbursement hostage, pending my submission of a positive review for my experience because obviously she knew it was anything but. I asserted to her and continue to assert to you now that is what is known legally as any/all of the following: 1) DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES; 2) FRAUD; 3) EXTORTION; 4) INTENTIONAL MISREPRESENTATION. And allowing a host to switch me to another car with a mechanical warning light on is undoubtedly ACTIONABLE NEGLIGENCE on the part of Turo. And the host providing such a car is obviously also ACTIONABLY NEGLIGENT.

Nikola's response

Jonathan, We take very seriously your review and we apologize for your experience. Unfortunately smashed windows are an ongoing situation in SF and, we always try to accommodate our guests as best we can. We ENCOURAGE YOU in any situation you don’t feel safe to cancel IMMEDIATELY and no use that in your favor to get FREE RIDES. Your uber was covered to get you to the other car, located only 3 blocks from the address you were at. YOUR $18 USD refund was issued as soon your trip ended. THANKS

Nikola's response

The car was involved in an accident caused by another renter, fortunately, no one was hurt, but the car was not ready for the reservation. Anyway, we offer another option to our renter and he happily completes his ride.
