I’m not sure where to go with this rating. On one hand, the renter was very communicative and tried to help make things right. On the other hand, it was my worst experience so far on Turo by far. I’ve decided to give the renter the benefit of the doubt and split the difference and rate it 3 stars. If the renter was honest (and I don’t have any reason to believe that they weren’t), they are might be a decent renter. The car itself and experience were closer to one star. When I picked the car up, I was hit with the overwhelming smell of weed. I mean knock you over strong. The renter claimed that the previous renter smoked in the car. It’s possible, especially when looking at the renters prior review. However, the car should have been cleaned. There were two air fresheners (along with a lot of dirt) under the rear mats. At the VERY least, the car should have been cleaned (which it wasn’t). The renter claimed that they didn’t have time, yet the car was parked at the airport almost 5 hours before I was scheduled to arrive (I know this because I got a $36 parking fee, which was reimbursed). There was an empty water bottle under the seat and only 3/4 of a tank of gas. Moving on to the car - the weed smell dissipated somewhat, but still smelled the entire time that we had the car (mostly with the windows down). The renter issued me a $50 credit to compensate, but I would have much rather had a car that didn’t stink. The car had been wrecked, still with obvious signs of damage (paint and front end). The passenger seat could not be moved back and forth. The trunk popped partially open about 4 or 5 times while driving. That said, I couldn’t get it to open all the way either. I believe this was due to some accident previously. We went to Monterey and the morning that we started back the “service throttle body” and check engine lights came on. The power went down significantly and the heater stopped working. After reading about in the manual and online, it was safe to drive unless it started flashing so I notified the renter and made the drive back to San Fran. All in all it was a miserable experience. The more I write, the more I think that I should reconsider the 3 star rating, but as I said at least the seller responded instantly to everything. Perhaps the entire trip was just bad luck? The thing that bothers me the most is that the car was not clean and they knew about the weed smell. Oh well, this happens on Turo occasionally I suppose. My other 8 experiences were positive.

This car was dirty and had damage that is not advertised on the site. The paint is messed up on both the passenger door and also on the bottom of the vehicle on the drivers side. The white car had black spots of dirt all over it and the interior needed to be vacuumed. There was even an old French fry on the floor of the car. The owner of the vehicle was also difficult to work with. I missed my flight and asked to change the hours of my trip and the owner refused to be flexible.
