Description

Two years ago, I rented an Alfa Romeo 4C on Turo, thinking that it would be fun for the day but that I’d never want to own this crazy thing. After 15 minutes behind the wheel, I knew that I had to have one. Two weeks later, I welcomed this red headed wild child into my life and it has brought me nonstop joy, constant thrills, and more conversations with curious strangers than I ever could have imagined. So what makes the 4C so special? With modern technology, any car company can make a 6000 lb SUV that’s fast. But making cars that are actually still fun is a dying art. Alfa set out to make its new sports car as light as possible, so it built it on a carbon fiber chassis with carbon composite body work. That’s incredibly expensive technology typically only seen in supercars like McLarens and Bugattis. It also allows the 4C to weigh in at only 2400 lbs. It’s so light that it doesn’t need a huge, heavy engine or complicated adaptive suspension. It’s so light, it doesn’t even have power steering! It’s a handful at parking lot speeds, but once you’re moving, it’s amazing. The steering wheel offers constant, unfiltered, crystal-clear communication so that you can feel exactly what’s happening between the tires and the road. While other high performance cars have to pipe in fake engine noises through the stereo speakers, the Alfa filters nothing out. You hear all the crazy whirs and pops and whistles as the turbo spools up. You hear the tires chirp, scrambling for traction as you shift from 1st to 2nd. You laugh your ass off when you realize they’re still chirping as you shift from 3rd into 4th. The 4C isn’t practical. The trunk will fit a backpack and a couple bags of groceries. It’s so low that there’s absolutely no way to gracefully get in and out, although it’s surprisingly comfortable once you’re in. There’s no touchscreen infotainment center, or adaptive cruise control, or automatic targa top, or facial recognition drowsiness detector, or any of the other features you get in that 6000 lb SUV Sport Coupé. What you get instead is unbridled driving joy. Whether carving canyons or slicing through traffic in the city, you’ll find yourself with a permanent grin and frequent giggles. You’ll find yourself downshifting for no reason other than the fun of it. You’ll find your skills improve when you’re in constant dialogue with the car and the road. You’ll find that going to the grocery store feels more like going to the kart racing track. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself searching online to find one to call your own. * 1.75 L turbo 4 cylinder * 237 hp, 258 ft-lbs torque * 4.1 sec 0-60, 160 mph top speed * 6 speed dual clutch transmission (paddle shift or fully automatic mode) * Manual convertible spider top * 24 mpg city, 34 mpg hwy * 3.7 cu. ft. trunk (soft luggage is best. Not all carry on roller bags will fit) * Every body is different, but things start getting snug at 6’3” and taller

Guidelines

I share my vehicles with other enthusiasts, partially to offset the costs, but also because I’m truly passionate about them and enjoy creating opportunities for others to experience just how special they are. Overall, my experiences sharing these unique cars within the Turo community have been very positive. Please do your part to keep it that way! This is not “just a rental.” This is my personal vehicle. Please have fun with it but treat it (and me) with respect. You can have a lot of fun with this car without thrashing it or causing undue wear and tear. The car is equipped with a remote monitoring system that will alert me of abusive driving. Absolutely no track use or street racing Absolutely no launch control-style acceleration runs. Revving the engine and then slamming it into gear is the fastest way to destroy the dry clutch transmission and find yourself with a $6000 repair bill. No burnouts, donuts, or drifting No pets, no smoking So, please have fun with it. It’s not a Prius and I don’t expect you to drive it like one. But if you wouldn’t do something to your own car, then please don’t do it to mine. The 4C can’t go through automatic car washes. It’s too low for conveyor tracks and high pressure water jets will cause the top to leak. Just return the car as is and I’ll take care of post-rental washing included in the price.
