How do I charge the Tesla Model 3?
Two ways: 1. At any of the 1,200 Tesla Supercharges across North America: see https://www.tesla.com/supercharger There is a supercharger in North Raleigh outside of the Target at North Hills. This can usually get the car close to a full charge in 30 minutes or so. The Tesla itself knows where all the superchargers are and can navigate you to the nearest one should you need to charge the car quickly. The cost of charging will be automatically charged to my account and I will request reimbursement after the car is returned via the turo reimbursement tool (https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/204670190-Reimbursement-tool). An idle fee is charged if the car is left in a supercharger spot after it has already reached full charge, so please move the car once charging is complete! 2. At your destination: There are also multiple 'normal' charging stations scattered around Raleigh and various other locations. There's an app called 'PlugShare' that will show a map of all of these locations along with notes on which ones are free, have parking costs, charging costs, etc. These normal charging locations can take most of a day to get a full charge since they are much less powerful and are more like charging at home. Sometimes you can find them at the locations you already are going and it can be a convenient place to park and charge while you do your daily activities! If you use these normal chargers then there is an adapter in the front trunk (or 'frunk') that you can connect to make sure it works with the model 3 (superchargers do not require any adapter).
What do I need to know before driving a Tesla for the first time?
1. Auto-Regenerative braking: The car auto-brakes mildly as soon as you take your foot fully off of the accelerator and converts some of the stopping force into energy for the car. You get used to this very quickly and all it means is that the car doesn't 'coast' but instead will come to a stop somewhat sooner once you let your foot off the accelerator. It's not a hard brake by any means, just takes a few minutes to get used to! 2. AutoPilot: AutoPilot can only be used on highways. When activated the car will drive itself at the speed you specify, keeping the specified distance from the car in front of you and auto-switching lanes when necessary. You do have to keep your hands on the wheel and pay attention to the road at all times, but this will make highway driving far less stressful! 3. Everything is controlled through the center dash display or on the turn signals and wheel. There are no other displays in the vehicle.
Where can I pick up the car? Do you deliver it? Can I park a current car somewhere if I'm renting for test drive purposes?
I'll hand off the car and answer any questions you have/give a quick tutorial at the Hue parking garage in downtown Raleigh (300 W Hargett St, next to 'A Place at the Table' cafe). For single day trips or test drive rentals, I can provide parking at the top level of the Hue parking garage.
