Description

Great electric surf and town car!! Surf racks, spacious interior, comfortable and clean. Save on gas!! NOTE: Hana and Haleakala are off limits due to range. Please keep in mind that this EV has a limited range, averaging 70 miles. It cannot get to the East side (Hana) and back, the upper north/west (Kahakuloa) nor to the top of Haleakala summit. Otherwise, it gets around most of the island smoothly and there are many convenient charging stations available. Variability on mileage depend on many factors such as hills, weather, AC use, what’s on the roof, etc. Check with your accommodation if they have a charging station (many hotels have this for guests) or if there’s an outlet (regular 120-volt) available for your use in close proximity to the parking. If not, no worries! You’ll just have to plan ahead a bit. There are many free (or small fee) charging stations around Maui that only take a couple of hours to get a full charge. I will give you a guide on how to find them and I’ll be available to answer your questions. It’s an EV adventure - you might end up hanging somewhere you wouldn’t have otherwise :) Save money on gas and enjoy a clean, quiet, zero-emissions ride!! Feel free to reach out if you have special requests and we’ll see what we can do. Aloha!

  • What’s the best way to get to your location from the airport?

We are only a 10-15 minute drive from the airport. Uber or taxi will cost around $20. We are also very close to a bus stop and the bus runs every hour - from the airport take the “Haiku Islander” towards Haiku and get off at the second stop in Paia town. The timetable only lists one stop for Paia so make sure to request the second bus stop. Timetable here: https://www.mauicounty.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4353/Bus-Fixed-Route-Schedule?bidId=

The car was exactly what we needed for a weeklong trip. Charging at the hotel was easy and we spent nothing on fuel. The transaction was seamless and the proximity to Kahului Airport is ideal. First time in an EV, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Clean and well functioning car. Guri was very prompt and helpful with communication. Easy pickup/drop off. Only issue was the short distance the car can travel on a full charge (about 60 miles). Information was provided to help with locating charging stations on the island but there is a learning curve for those not familiar with EVs.

Guri was really helpful & provided a list of places/apps to use for charger stations! I really appreciate it. But it’s extremely limited in Hawaii & feels competitive to find an available pump which can be frustrating. When we did find a pump, they some weren’t working or were down. The car can go about ~50-70 miles before you need to charge which can take from anywhere about 2hrs-12hrs for a full charge. This car is definitely not something you want if you want to fully explore Maui, but rather if you are staying in one spot for your stay. Overall, we made it work.

Guri's response

Thank you Jeanette! You’re right, driving an EV on Maui is definitely limited at this time. Having the ability to charge at your accommodation is ideal. The infrastructure and demand for charging stations on Maui is growing as more and more folks make the shift away from fossil fuel on our islands and towards renewable energy. Happy you made it work, thanks for helping to pave the way towards more sustainable choices! Aloha
