Completely original 1967 Porsche 912 with a 5 speed manual transmission. This is the short wheel base version with the same body as the 911 of that era. The 1.6 liter, air-cooled engine has just 90 horsepower but offers a lively and rewarding experience - revving through gear changes. The handling is nimble and the car does highway speeds with ease. It's an original California car and has always been well maintained by Porsche specialists. The ride is smooth and solid. The ivory paint looks fantastic. The cabin is airy and comfortable thanks to large windows. Side windows profile good ventilation. There are lap style seat belts. The original Becker radio even works!

Wow, so much fun to drive. Pure happiness behind the wheel. Daren is accommodating as usual, top notch.

The whole experience was amazing. The car drove from LA to Palm Springs no problem. So happy I found Daren on Turo.

I rented Daren’s 1967 Porsche 912 as part of a bucket-list road trip for my dad, a life-long Porsche enthusiast. From cruising the Malibu canyons and braving the rain-soaked San Gabriel Mountains, to cruising LA traffic and sitting pretty in front of the Comedy Store, the car proved to be reliable, comfortable, and enthusiastically took on every challenge I tossed its way. The 400 miles I spent with this car changed my attitude about driving and performance. Daren was quick to respond to any questions, reliably held the reservation for a month, and provided a great, short video covering all of the functions of the car. His mileage allotments are generous compared to other cars on Turo. Pick-up and drop-off is in public, in a nice neighborhood with little traffic and ample street parking. He seems to have a great appreciation and knowledge of the cars in his fleet - you can tell it’s not just a business for him. The car is exactly how it’s presented in photos. Maybe better. It’s an unrestored, well-loved example of an early-912/11. You can tell it’s been well care for since the beginning. The engine needs a minute or two to warm up (important!), but once you get going it hums like a sewing machine. The dog-leg gearbox will take a little bit of time to get used to if you’re used to a standard shift pattern, but otherwise it takes only a few minutes to get used to it coming from a modern car. Wipers are great, brakes strong, probably the most direct steering you can find in a car, and it will happily cruise along at highway speeds (but you’ll have more fun going 35 in the canyons). It handles similarly to my modern 911 - while obviously slower, the experience is much more pure. Bonus feature - the pops and burbles coming from behind you are real and not programmed as part of the ECU. The only other thing to keep in mind is that the world wasn’t as bright at night back in the day, and the headlights and instrument lighting reflect this. Would I rent from Daren again? Absolutely. I’m trying to come up with excuses to fly back out to LA and try out his whole fleet. I would rent this 912 again specifically, except that I’m now shopping for one of my own.
