Description

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Driving the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is a bit like listening to Prince. It's mind-blowingly good, but sometimes it’s just staggeringly inappropriate. The 4C, especially with the top ripped off, is a snarling, rasping, wheezing monster. I don't know how this car passed the noise regulations, and frankly I don't give a damn. Some engineers at Alfa thought that installing the tiny, rev-happy 1.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Italian engine inches behind my head was a great idea. They were right. Sitting at a red light is an exercise in restraint. The engine is a bit like that saber-toothed cat in Ice Age whimpering, "I wanna maul!" It’s barely restrained lunacy unleashed with the slightest touch of the throttle. Then you stomp the gas for the most exciting 0-35 mph run in history up to the next red light. Then you do it again. Drivers on motorcycles and in other sports cars, some way more expensive than this $85,000 astonishingly-cheap-for-what-you-get budget exotic, give you an enthusiastic thumbs up. A BUDGET EXOTIC THAT PUNCHES ABOVE ITS WEIGHT Are you brave enough to drive the 4C Spider?. This is a weekend rocket ship, with enough room for you and the spouse to tear off to Napa for some wine and a trip to French Laundry. Or, if you are adventurous , on a longer road trip Lake Tahoe. The 4C is the cheapest sports car you can get with a chassis made from carbon fiber. This is a luxury usually seen on super cars at a 500k$ price range. It sits just shy of 2,500 pounds, which means the 237 horsepower engine can get you from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. It's an engineering marvel, and astonishingly gorgeous to boot. And, with only around 1,000 brought into the US each year (split between the coupe and ragtop), it's so rare that even in jaded San Francisco it commands constant attention. This awesome car inspired by Ferrari engineers is similar to the Ferrari 458.The Alfa Romeo 4c Spider makes its home in winding roads, just make sure your heart is healthy for the rollercoaster ride your about to experience. Dual clutch and carbon tub are the mechanical highlights. It’s so cool to see it in the interior. The Alfa is happiest with no traffic and twisty roads. The car has that Italian “exotic” feeling. It requires full focus at all times. It’s really amazing this car exists, practicality is traded for emotion. There’s no power steering, so don’t try to parallel park in town and keep u-turns to a minimum unless you want a workout. And pack light. For taller folks, you will be very, very happy it’s the Spider. That made getting in and out way easier.

Amazing host very accommodating and really a chill guy. Was an amazing driving experience and highly recommend to anyone who wants a non typical sports car. Thank you!

I had this hidden gem of a car for two days and fell completely in love. I have driven many, many cars in my lifetime. Pretty much every make and model you can think of ranging from your usual Ford Mustangs all the way up to a Mclaren MP4-12C, on road and track. This Alfa stands amongst my top 5, maybe even top 3 experiences. Its not the fastest car, or the sharpest handler, but it is an absolute joy to drive. Really visceral experience. Mind you, its really for the purists in driving. Watch a YouTube review to understand why, as its stripped down to just the bare essentials. A small but turbocharged (also fuel-efficient!) motor, a tight transmission, stiff suspension, and next to no weight. Theress a sound system, pretty good at low speeds, but you wont hear it (and won't want to) over the whistle of the turbo and blasts of the the exhaust on shifts once you really get going. Highly recommend if you're a car guy / driving enthusiast. The 4C is truly overlooked. Also recommend if you just want a fun car to zip around in along the beach, but perhaps not for inexperienced drivers (no power steering, turbo-lag could be startling). Also, Ernesto is an awesome, awesome guy. I had to do a late pick-up and drop-off due to my schedule, and he was very kind about it. He met me to help me get in and around the car, was super responsive via text and call, and just a great car guy to talk to. If you rent this Alfa, please take care of it for Ernesto and for the car world. The Alfa Romeo 4C deserves to be seen, heard, felt and driven.

Very fun car! Ernesto was extremely helpful, especially as it was my first Turo rental. Made sure the car was clean and sanitized as well. Need something fun to do over COVID? Rent this car!

Awesome car! Great communication even after I had to make a late change to the return time. Super fun to drive but I found out the hard way that I don't fit well in small sports cars! Tall people, beware!
