Description

Enjoy the beautiful island of Oahu and breeze past all the gas stations charging an average of $4/gallon. No need to get electric vehicle range anxiety with an average of 80 miles per full charge, and there are plenty of charging stations scattered around the island. Check with your hotel or lodging contact for information on the closest charger and charging station company. You will need to download the smartphone app for the type of charging stations you plan to use. The most common are Chargepoint (https://na.chargepoint.com/register) and SemaConnect (https://semaconnect.com/for-ev-drivers/5-ways-to-charge/). This Nissan Leaf hatchback is the perfect beach car with space for 5 passengers plus beach-gear in the roomy trunk that has just shy of 24 cubic feet. Leg room in the back seat is 33 inches. If you need more trunk space and only need seats for 3 people you can fold the 60/40 rear seat split down and get space measured at 30 cubic feet. Car seat and booster seats available for those traveling with little ones.

Guidelines

You'll get the best battery mileage by driving in Eco mode and brake regenerative mode. Let me know if you have questions about the Leaf EV driving. As advertised in the description this is the perfect beach car, but please remove as much sand from your clothes, gear, pets, etc. before getting back into the car after some beach fun. Don't forget to clean the car before returning. Dogs are welcome in the car. No smoking. No off-roading or driving on un-paved roads. If you opt for contactless pick-up the garage parking ticket you will need to exit the garage will be in the lock box with the key-fob on the car-door handle. I'll put some cash with the ticket to cover the parking cost. For contactless return be sure to put the garage entry ticket and key fob into the RFI/electric signal blocking faraday pouch before you put it into the lock-box. If the key fob is not in the faraday pouch some-one could unlock the car using the key-less entry button on the door handles.

Faqs

  • How many miles does the Leaf get on a full battery charge?

On paper the Leaf owner's manual says 84 miles. The reality is closer to 80 miles per charge and this is highly dependent on how you drive. If you not in Eco mode and driving at high speeds you will get much less mileage per charge. The dash gage will read anywhere from 75 - 77 miles available on a full charge, but conservative driving will get you closer to 80.

  • What are the best charging stations?

The best stations are those conveniently located in places you will need to charge the car. The primary location is where the car will be parked overnight since this is the best time to charge. If you're hotel or AirBnB doesn't have a charging station you can use a standard 110V electrical outlet and the cord in the trunk to trickle charge the car. The same cord will work using a 220V outlet which are found in laundry rooms for example. As far as the best charging stations, again this is dependent on where you will be driving and how much time you have to charge the car. Volta stations are primarily located at large shopping malls and offer up to 15 mins or more of free charging. Chargepoint stations can be found at Foodland stores and in my experience tend to be more available. If you need a quick-charge do a Google map search for "nearby Greenlots chagers" and use the larger 240V plug-in.

The car was great, spacious and clean. It’s great if you just want to be local, and have a place to charge it. The problem we encountered was the limited charging stations in the hotel and around the hotel. It was a hustle. It was also difficult to be out of Honolulu and the Waikiki area, like to go and explore other areas in the island because not all the places have available chargers. The car consumes a lot of energy when you use the AC. Other than that, the owner was great in giving suggestions about using the car (being an electric car) and also the car was super clean and in great condition,
