Description

The ONLY stick shift convertible under $150 a day on the island! This car has seriously been taken care of, it's an '06 but it looks and drives like it's fresh from the dealer. Everything about a Miata is designed to bring a silly grin to your face, and this 6-speed rear wheel drive orange roadster is great at it. The tight and quick gearshift, the subtle burbles and crackles of the exhaust, the not-so-subtle way it'll throw you around on a twisty road; it feels like the car's having as much fun as you are. Creature comforts: Bluetooth, touchscreen and steering wheel audio control, CD/usb input & charger, LED headlights, cruise control, keyless entry, power windows & side mirrors; nice cold a/c and a cooled drivers seat cover. Trunk space is limited, but will fit a full size carry-on suitcase, a similarly sized duffel bag, and two backpacks. Let me know if you have larger checked bags, if our bigger car is available we can take them to your local destination. ***If you're having trouble booking my car, you probably need to go into your profile and switch the "I know how to drive stick shift" thing to enabled.*** ***INSURANCE INFORMATION*** Even if your credit card and/or car insurance says they cover rental cars, they may not cover Turo, call and ask before you decline extra coverage. Coverage for every renter is available from Turo at checkout. Turo provides liability insurance only in your rental fee, but does offer additional coverage for an extra fee. Parking details

Generally public parking in downtown Kailua-Kona is free but you do need to know where to look. There are some paid lots but you should never need to park there. All the parking lots I have placed below are free, and right in the center of downtown! 1. One free lot is adjacent to the Kona Public Library and is shared with an outdoor farmers market. (Right next to it is a smaller paid lot so do not go there!) 2. The next best parking lot is across from the Shell station at this address: 75-5700 Kuakini Hwy Kailua Kona, HI 96740 United States You can’t park there overnight but you can park there all day for free. 3. The next best lot is in Coconut Grove surrounding the Outback Steakhouse. Parking is free there all day long.

Guidelines

Some basic rules... 1. Please don't curb the wheels. 2. No smoking/vaping. $200 cleaning fee if it returns smelling like cigarettes/weed. 3. Please only drive on paved roads. Dirt parking lots are fine, just watch for the bigger rocks. 4. No pets. 5. Please make an effort to keep the interior as clean and dry as you can, use provided bags for wet items. Any spills, stains, bad odors, etc. are going to cost a cleaning fee. Please also make an effort to avoid parking under trees (bird poop is very acidic and eats through the clear coat) or near sprinkler systems (hard water spots are really difficult to remove). Other than that, don't worry about washing the exterior, I'll hand wash it myself. 6. Requires premium gas (91+), keep receipts when you fill up please. 7. Everyone driving the miata needs to be experienced with driving manual transmissions. 8. Put the top up when parking, rain can come quick and without warning. 9. Return the car at or before the return time you chose on Turo (insurance coverage stops at that time). If you need it longer, let me know as soon as possible. 10. Please return car in the same condition it was rented, You are responsible for exterior/interior damage while you are renting it. 11. Have fun and drive safe!

Faqs

  • Am I too tall to drive this?

    I'm 6'2.5" (189cm) tall. I fit like a (slightly tight) glove :)

  • How do I back this thing up?

Reverse gear: push down (toward the floor/ground), all the way left, and forward. Shift pattern isn't marked, but the rest is as you'd expect, see here: https://www.cjponyparts.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/thumbnail/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/m/s/msk402-v_4.2823.jpg

  • How's the luggage space?

The trunk will fit a regular full size carry on suitcase, a similarly sized duffel bag, and two backpacks. (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOAX3t3pqz0). If you have bigger checked luggage let me know, if our bigger car is available I can help you get it to your hotel.

we have rented this very car from bryan before and, as before, the experience was stellar. we arrived early and bryan did everything he could, at great inconvience to himself (and his newborn) to get the car to us early. we will certainly rent again.

The Miata was the perfect fit for my week long trip to the island. It's fun and easy to drive and the bluetooth kept me connected with my favorite tunes and driving directions. Bryan was great to work with and made airport pick up and return a breeze. Thanks Bryan!

Travel by Miata is the perfect way to see the big island. Bryan made pickup and drop off seamless... And we looked a little less like haoles while still driving a convertible. Highly recommended!
