Description

I am pleased to offer to the Turo community my 2015 Polaris Slingshot SL. If you've ever seen one on the street or have never seen one but are intrigued, this is your opportunity to rent it and have some fun! Be prepared to have everyone looking at you when you're casually cruising the beach or zipping down the highway with the wind in your hair. If you want to grab people's attention, this is the vehicle for you. Take it for a trip to Little Talbot Island, Big Talbot Island, Kingsley Plantation, Riverside Park, or even on Florida's legendary Highway A1A all the way down to Key West. This vehicle handles like it's riding on rails, twisting and curving roads are where it really shines. An emphasis on touring has been placed on this vehicle such as the removable custom canvas top to keep the heat off you, a windscreen, custom fitted day bags for the storage compartments, and two small storage racks behind the roll hoops. Inside the cockpit you'll find two simple and easy to read gauges, cruise control (yes, it has cruise control!) and a wonderfully crisp five speed transmission. There is a large lockable and waterproof glove box on the passenger side, enough to store a small bag and along with other items. The radio has bluetooth connectivity so you can play your favorite music when you're out and about. There's no better vehicle to take your friend or significant other out on a road trip with, multi-day rentals are highly encouraged! The Slingshot gets around 28mpg and with a 9.8 gallon gas tank, you have a cruising range of about 275 miles! The interior is completely waterproof; if you happen to drive through a bit of rain on your journey, don't worry about it. The water drains down and leaves the vehicle through discrete drains under the seats. Included upon request are two helmets, one blue and one white. If your intention is to go out of state, please do your research on the state's helmet laws. The guest reserving the car must know and understand how to operate a manual transmission car. By reserving this vehicle you are affirming you are comfortable operating a manual transmission. Please review my FAQ section.

Faqs

  • How do I start the car?

Put the key in the ignition, turn it away from you, then reach over and hit the **BIG RED BUTTON** under the radio to hear it come to life.

  • I know that it's registered as a motorcycle, but is it in any way like driving a motorcycle?

No. The only thing that it has in common with a motorcycle is the fact that it has one wheel in the back and is belt driven. Sitting inside of it, you'd never know the difference. It is completely identical to driving any other car.

  • Does it have air conditioning?

    No. No it does not.

  • It looks really fast...is it?

I would call it "quick". It has a top speed of about 130 MPH (please don't attempt that) and the 0-60 time hovers around 4.8 seconds (depending on driver/driving conditions).

  • How do I take the top off?

To remove the top is pretty simple, actually. Just pull the canvas off around the frame (it's held on by velcro) and slide the front of the canvas out of the retaining bar (you'll get it when you see it). Fold it up and place it in the cargo area behind the seats. The frame isn't easy to remove, so you'll still have the frame attached to the vehicle.

  • Since it's registered as a motorcycle (but classified as an "autocycle"), do I need a motorcycle endorsement to drive it?

For the most part, no. Most other states have changed their regulations to allow owner/operators of three-wheel cockpit style vehicles (like the Slingshot) to drive it without a motorcycle endorsement. If you plan on taking it out of state, please do your research. Please refer to the following link: https://slingshot.polaris.com/en-us/license-requirements/

  • I want to take this vehicle on a U.S. military installation. Is there anything I should know?

Yes, to operate on a U.S. military installation riders shall wear the same protective gear as a motorcycle operator i.e. long pants, long shirt, helmet, and eye protection (if you're not wearing a full face helmet).

  • Are there any recommendations you have for me while I'm driving it?

Yes, wear glasses. Sunglasses or just regular lightly tinted driving glasses. Wind therapy is pretty awesome, you'll have a blast out there. But if you're going on really long trips you'll want to have the wind out of your eyes. Some sunscreen would be good if you have the top off.

  • How tall of a person can fit in it?

I am 6'2" and have ZERO problems driving it. The seat backs up far enough to make using the pedals quite easy. In fact, I drive with the seat slid a little bit forward. I'm pretty confident saying that someone up to 6'4" would be comfortable sitting in and driving it. Believe it or not, there is a Slingshot owner who is 6'10" and drives it regularly!
