Description

☃️ WINTER SETUP ❄️ #1 Rated Michelin X-Ice winter only tires, BETTER than AWD! Meets chain law requirements in the Cottonwood Canyons for skiing, chains are NOT necessary with these tires. 🔥 Heated seats ⛷ Ski racks The VW TDI Sportwagon is the best all-around vehicle I have ever owned. It blends a balance of economy, performance, practicality, and luxury better than anything else. I owned a Prius, Subaru, and multiple SUV's and these are the reasons I sold them and went back to the VW Sportwagen: - 43 MPG Hwy Diesel engine - Plenty of power to flatten mountains - FUN to drive German dynamics - Luxurious interior - Huge panoramic sunroof - Space and storage to rival an SUV - Almost 600mi fuel range - Long low roof for bikes and skies (without a step stool) This is a DIESEL engine and part of what makes this car so amazing. Diesel is available at 99% of gas stations in Utah at the green colored pumps. DO NOT PUT GAS in this car, it will do serious damage. All emissions recall work has been done and this VW fully complies with all emissions laws. This is a FWD car with dedicated winter tires which makes it better in snow than an AWD without winter tires. Tires make all the difference in the world for winter driving and are far more important than having AWD. AWD will help you accelerate faster in the snow, but AWD WILL NOT HELP YOU STOP OR TURN to avoid accidents. Only dedicated winter tires will do this and it's the reason ALL of my cars include winter tires during ski season. - I also have an AWD BMW 535xi wagon setup for skiing and biking if you want a larger more powerful wagon

Guidelines

Per standard Turo policy: no smoking, no pets, and please return the car reasonably clean. I don’t mind normal dust and dirt and you won't be charged for normal levels of dirty. If you get the interior extra dirty, please take a few minutes at a car wash to vacuum your dirt and empty your trash! Excessively dirty car will be charged a $35 dollar cleaning fee, more if it requires professional cleaning. Smoking is absolutely not tolerated and will be subject to a cleaning fee of $250 dollars. My wife has asthma, I’m serious about the smoking! Absolutely no off-roading beyond a well maintained dirt or gravel road, this is a low ground clearance sportswagon not an SUV. If you want to rip around off road in Moab, please find a more appropriate vehicle to rent that won’t get damaged. Also, it's important to know that TURO DOES NOT COVER OFF ROAD DAMAGE, you are 100% liable for it.

Faqs

  • Is this a diesel? Where do I get diesel fuel? Didn't VW cheat on emissions and buy these cars back?
Yes this is a diesel, and it's what makes this car so amazing and the reason it gets superior fuel mileage. Diesel is available at just about every gas station in Utah. Look for the GREEN pump handles at any gas station. Yes, VW cheated on emissions, and I owned one of these cars that was recalled years ago. The EPA has certified the recall repair work that was performed by VW to fix these cars to meet all emissions laws and they are now available to purchase again.
  • Do winter tires really make a big difference? How can it be BETTER THAN AWD? Can I drive this car up the Cottonwood Canyons during snow storms?
YES YES and YES. The Michelin X-Ice tires are 3PMSF rated tires that meet the chain laws for Cottonwood and other canyons. Winter tires are night and day superior to the all season tires found on all other rental cars at Hertz and other rental agencies. Imagine going off-roading with street tires, it's the same concept. Winter tires have a very special soft rubber compound and tread design made specifically for gripping ice and snow. A FWD car with winter tires is better than an AWD or 4WD car with standard tires. You will be able to stop much faster and turn to avoid accidents without going out of control. The snow and ice can still be slippery, but you will have much more control over the car to avoid getting in an accident.
