Description

If you currently own or are familiar with EVs then the Bolt EV will be a great choice for you. The packaging on this car is fantastic, rear seat leg room is as good as any midsize car or SUV. The hatch is convenient and will fit several large suitcases and a small one or two. 3 Medium suitcases and 2 smalls will fit as well. For a family of 4 this is one of your best choices. 5 people will fit snuggly (a large SUV would be a better option if it’s 5 plus lots of luggage.) The Bolt has a 240 mile range and abundant power so it’s perfect for daily trips over and around the island (if you are looking at a multi-day rental you’ll most likely want to secure overnight, level 2 charging to have total freedom on your trip.) The reward if you do find included free charging at your Hotel/B&B, is ZERO fueling costs for driving around this island on a daily basis. This car can be charged using low-cost level one or level two charging. Level 3 “Fast Chargers” do exist here but aren’t reliable, and my Bolt doesn’t have the option anyhow. If your plan is to drive around this island everyday, 200 miles or more at at time, it’s gonna need an overnight charge to handle that. But if you just need this car to get around town for work/pleasure, the cars 240 miles of range is plenty for several days->week usage. There is also free 2 hour charging at all Walmarts and Targets on island as well as a many other locations. (You’ll need a ChargePoint account to access them.) So if you need a zippy, efficient car to cruise around and average less than 150 miles per day, the car should work perfect for ya. Lastly, I give lots of leeway on return charging, I’ll rent it to you with a FULL CHARGE and only ask you bring it back with 75% charge in some circumstances. But for most of you, I only asked that you bring the car back with more than 10% state of charge left. We can work out charging reimbursement cost at that time. For example, if you Return at: 75% or higher no cost 50-75%= $10 40-49%= $15 30-39%= $20 20-29%= $25 Under 19%= $30

Faqs

  • How do I charge on Level 1 with the Included(110v) charger?

In the trunk you’ll find a 110v charger that you can plug into any outlet and charge the car up overnight. On level 1 charging you can replenish only about 25% overnight so it’s good for around town charging but not ideal for longer distances. You can charge on 8amps or 12amps on level 1. (Adjust in center console under energy settings)

  • How do I charge on Level 2 (240v)?

Many businesses and Hotels around the island have Level 2 chargers on site, some are free and others are paid. You can fully charge the Bolt overnight from 0-100% in about 8 hours. Most EV owners install and charge on Level 2 at home, but that requires a purchased charging unit such as Emporia or Grizzl-e, etc.

  • Can I Fast Charge (Level 3) the Bolt?

No, this car doesn’t have the required plug for Fast charging. Luckily the Big Island is only 70 miles across and the range is 240 miles on a full charge. Level 2 charging is sufficient for overnight replenishment of the battery, however if you are driving a lot during the day it’s best to stop for a lunch and charge for a couple of hours to keep your trip stress free. .
