Nabeel
Quick summary / TLDR: Overall, it’s not worth it to rent this car. The host, Rolf, is a nightmare (more details below), car has a rough ride, no power steering and low charge range. Rolf makes renting this car the worst experience of your life and violates your privacy by tracking your every move even down to you putting on your belt. Stay as far away as you can from renting cars from Rolf. Feedback on the host: This is the worst experience I have ever had with a rental. The host, Rolf, is insane to say the least. He tracks every single thing happening in the car and watches it like a hawk. I rented this car for my wedding to make a grand exit and take some pictures with it. Let me go in order on how things went from bad to a nightmare. When I booked the car about two weeks before the pickup date, first text he sends me is to watch a 45 minute video on YouTube. The first 15 mins is him explaining the various Tesla chargers he has. A topic that could be covered in 30 secs takes 15 mins. I find it odd that I need to watch a long video but regardless I do and he makes me comment on the video that I watched it. I pickup the car from him and the guy is nice enough. He makes me sign his own contract which is separate from Turo. He has his own printed contracted. I didn’t think too much of it but found it a little odd. I ask him if he cares about me speeding. I’m renting a roadster so would naturally want to go fast. He says just follow the speed limits I’m like alright I will. Fair enough lots of hosts have rules about speeding. (Although I rented a BMW i8 and on Turo the host said don’t go above 100 but when I picked up the car he said go ahead and go fast have fun just stay below 120 cuz the tires aren’t rated above 120 mph). Before I drive off with the car Rolf tells me he’s got a tracker on the car and can limit the speed on it in case the car gets stolen. I drive off and 5 mins later I decide to stop and take the top off since the weather was nice. Within 2 mins of me stopping I get a call from Rolf asking me if everything is ok and why I stopped. I told him I stopped to take the top off. He’s like oh ok cool. I find this a little odd. I’m like why is he tracking my every movement in the car. I keep driving back to Phoenix, about a 40 mile drive. When I get to my location I’ve got 5 texts from him saying you’re speeding, you’re going 104 in 65. That’s reckless driving I’m going to limit your speed to 50 if you can’t control yourself. I’m like what is going on why is this guy watching me like a hawk and threatening to speed limit me. I didn’t even speed I probably went above 100 momentarily to get in front of a car. Most definitely didn’t cruise above 100. The car is fast it accelerated really quick without me realizing. Car has 3 speedometers in it. 1 analog on the dash, 1 digital which looks like it came from the factory and 1 digital in the stereo which looks like Rolf installed. Before I left he showed me the speedometer on the stereo. I was watching this the whole time and later realized that the digital lags the analog hence why I didn’t realize I was going over 100 (Rolf agreed with this). I later noticed that none of these speedometers read the same value. They are off by 2-4mph from each other. After I see the threatening texts from Rolf on speeding I call him and explain to him that it was probably for a split second that I was over 100 and I don’t generally speed especially at noon in the middle of Phoenix where there are many cops. He says ok just be careful then proceeds to tell me for the next 5 mins that I should charge the car even though I had 60+ miles of charge left. I’m like alright I will but never do cuz I’m not trying to find a wall outlet to plug a car in to while I’m getting ready for my wedding. I don’t drive the car again till 1230 at night when I’m done with my wedding reception. He texted me at some point before I drove telling me he’s going to sleep and I should charge the car. My wife gets in the car with her huge dress on and doesn’t put on her belt I make her put it on and I joke with her that this host is probably tracking the seat belt as well cuz he’s crazy she calls me paranoid but puts on her belt. I drive back to my hotel driving at or below the speed limit cuz I’m afraid even if I go a 1mph over, I’ll get a threatening text. Next day I wake up to a text from Rolf saying the car has been fully charged. Odd behavior, I don’t know why he had to watch the charge on the car and notify me. I knew it would be charged since I left it charging for 8+ hours. I was running a bit late when returning the car and Rolf was understanding of that. I get in the car and take off from the parking spot in the resort going 3 mph as I’m trying to turn on my gps and I don’t have my belt on at this moment. And guess WHAT. I get a text within 10 seconds asking me to put the belt on. In my head I’m like WHAT IS GOING ON what does me having a belt on have to do with his car. How will I hurt his car if I don’t have the belt on and why is this guy watching my every move down to the seat belt. Next thing I know I’ll get a text from him saying stop playing rap music in my car. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he tracks what songs you play in his car or records your conversations. I’m already running late to return the car and need to get to a lunch and I want to speed a bit, go maybe 80mph to return the car but can’t cuz Rolf will probably threaten me if I do. I stop on the way to him to get something from the gas station and he texts me right away saying you don’t need to put the top on (I guess he’s thinking I’m stopping to put the top on since I stopped the day before to take it off). Legitimately the whole time I drove this car I was scared that Rolf was gonna find a way to threaten me and fine me on Turo. I pull up to the Safeway lot to return the car and I kid you not within 2 seconds of me pulling up, he rolls up behind me in his other tesla. I did not see this car at all when I first pulled into the lot. This guy was watching my gps location so closely that he could even tell which spot I was pulling in to. The whole time I had this car, I felt my privacy was being violated because this guy was watching my every move even down to if I had my seat belt on. Rolf is a nightmare to rent with if you want to have your privacy violated then go ahead and rent this car. If you want someone to baby sit you while you drive then rent this car. If you want someone texting you throughout your drive then rent this car. What I don’t understand is why Rolf texted me while I was driving, he really wanted me on my phone when driving so I could be distracted and crash. For a guy who’s so concerned about his car he doesn’t understand texting and driving causes accidents. Rolf is absolutely the worst host on Turo and should just take his cars off here cuz he’s clearly not ok with people driving his cars. Feedback on the car: As far as the car is concerned, it has 100k miles on it and drives like it. Suspension is rough and feels very stiff, you feel every bump you go over. Charge range is only 95 miles. You can’t even drive the 100 miles allocated per day without charging over night. Car has no power steering. Car looks nice and is good for pictures and grabs people’s attention. But drive is bad and technology on the interior is old even for a car made in 2011. There are metal buttons everywhere in the car which doesn’t feel technologically advanced. Maybe this is the look tesla went for at that time but it doesn’t age well. I think the car is fast but I wouldn’t know cuz I wasn’t allowed to go above the speed limit or accelerate quickly. Overall, it’s not worth it to rent this car if Rolf wasn’t such a nightmare I’d say rent it and enjoy the car even with its rough ride, no power steering and no low charge range. Rolf makes renting this car a nightmare of an experience. Stay as far away as you can from renting cars from Rolf.
